What was the final cost of your favorite AR build?  Gestimate everything including materials, tools, shipping, taxes, transfer fees, etc.  Reason I ask is, I just assembled a list of my dream AR and what it would cost to build.  I fudged my undies! Anyone want to buy a spare lung or kidney? Your right, I should check the EE first, see if anyone wants to trade a vital organ for a ace socom stock.

C'mon people.  I am not asking you to produce and tally receipts.  You dont have to disclose this to your accountant and the IRS.  Just a simple educated guess on what the complete rifle cost after all was said and done on the build.  Thank you and I now return you to your normally scheduled surfing.

M4gery $3500 or so
Grendel $3500 or so
Varminter just under $3000

Glass substantialy contributed to the prices on the Varminter and Grendel. The Grendel itself is a pricey upper to start w/ that's why it topped out the most. KAC triggers in all also pushes up the price. I didn't include the price of Mags, cleaning equipment, reloading equipment, brass, powder, bulk ammo, range finder, cases, safe, etc. blah..blah..blah.

As for my favorite, it depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Never really thought about how much cash I've spent on AR's, pretty disturbing now that I've tallied it up. Worst part is there are quite a few peeps here with many times my expense invested in their toys. And let's not even get the M16 owners started

Well, I know what a new stock rifle goes for.  I was more wondering about builds.  I thought you were suppossed to save money on a build.  I guess when you pick the most expensive item for each part, it adds up quick.  I also bought a stock rifle, I was just kicking around the idea for a build.

One of my most expensive carbines isn't a build, does that count? It's my Colt MT6400C defensive carbine.

It goes something like this:

$1029 Colt MT6400C
$1000 ACOG TA11D
$100 ARMS #19s
$100 Troy BUIS
$400 Surefire M500A
$225 MagPul M93
$115 Colt Comp trigger
$20 Hogue grip
$22 PRI Big Latch
$10 Bipod stud for sighting in
$2 Front sling mount

$3023 Total

I'd calculate my other ARs, but I don't think I want to know My Colt 6721 project is getting pretty expensive, as are some of the others.

Edited because I forgot something

If buying a complete upper and then a complete lower counts as a "build," then I spent about $750 on the lower and flat top upper, and about $90 for a Colt carry handle.  Grand total: $840.  I'm very happy with it.  Now if I could just get the chance to go to the range...

Well, my M4gery, although not my absolute favorite, and not truely a "build", was relatively inexpensive for me to put together:

Bushmaster M4A3 upper, (slightly used but practically like new condition) complete and came with fixed telestock: $300-$30 for fixed telestock that I sold=$270.

Complete Bushmaster w/ 6 position telestock, including shipping to FFL, no transfer fee: $306.44

Falcon/ERGO goodies:$25

Wilderness Sling: $25

Total: $626.44

Being able to do this "build" without risk of federal offense: PRICELESS!

Oh, I almost forgot, I'll be sending this to ADCO for the permanent Phantom job, so that should add about $100 to the total. Still not a bad deal...

I suppose because I was paying attention (and maxing out my credit cards) back in the good old days when you could buy ARs legally here in the PRK.  Those days ended on 12/31/1999.

You have no idea how many people I warned back then, who decided they'd never want an AR, or that it wasn't worth $200 to buy a lower that they couldn't shoot, who have since then become desperate for an AR and can't have anything better than a FAB-10...

-Troy

That sucks Troy, I'm sorry that your constitutional rights are under seige-even more so than most of us
