 THE GUY IN UNIFORM IS EL SALVADORAN SPEC OPS, WORKING IN NAJAF. THE OTHERS ARE CONTRACT SHOOTERS & BROTHERS-IN-ARMS AFTER WHAT THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH TOGETHER. NOT A PRIZE WINNER OF A PIC, BUT WAIT UNTIL YOU READ THE EXPLANATION THAT CAME WITH IT: "This EL Sal was caught in the open by the hospital. He ran out of ammo and stabbed some people while escaping to the base. His teamate was killed by the badguys. His knife was a 3 dollar folding crap job. We awarded him a Chris Reeve knife. Hard as nails.." THE CHRIS REEVE GREEN BERET KNIFE FROM M.S.T.N. WENT OVER WITH ONE OF THE SHOOTERS. WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |

That's a great story.
Sounds like an all around GREAT bunch of guys over there, be they contractors, US soldiers or foreign soldiers. The El Salvadoran guy gets the "Badass of the Week" award from me. Too bad his buddy didn't make it. |

The Elsalv, guys are very good, and we had SF (advisors) train them starting back in the mid late 80's.

I remember that I was training down at FT benning and seen El salvs down there. We were training with small arms they were training next to us. |

Good pic and interesting story, Wes.
The last time I was training at Ft. Benning they had ROK's there (Republic of "South" Korea) They acutally had Army units in Vietnam helping our cause. That was a few years ago though. |

My dad has commented that ROK soldiers were some of the toughest fighters he ever saw. He was in Vietnam through the Tet Offensive.

I salute your dad, Troy. I was there from 2/68 to 9/69. ROK's were the ones who showed us that wearing an "ear neckless" was the fashion at that time.

I had forgotten about the 4 winds cafe....It's been a few years but, they(el Salvs and Columbians) were all over main post, the enlisted guys at school of the americas and the officers were at ISTD (international Student Training Detachment). |

SOA was in the process of preparing to move from Panama to Ft. Benning as part of Pres. Carter's agreement when I left El Salvador.

Damn...he was El Salv Special Forces? Is that confirmed? Not bad... not bad... He deserves a Wilson Combat CQB and USMC desert cammies. Maybe toss in a SOPMOD M4A1 for him... I am sure he would appreciate it... and some PointBlank armor... HSGI Denali.... yeah...

Yeah, I'm sure by "switchblade", they meant "cheap-ass lock-back". But he has a Reeve now, so that won't be an issue anymore.
