How much does your rifle now weigh in at?
I like your configuration, but can't decide if .308 is too heavy and I should go with something else?
I don't have an exact measurement, but DPMS states that the stock AP4 weighs in @ 8.25 lbs empty.
I'm guessing it now weighs about the same as it did stock. The additions of the rifle length rail, m93b stock, and CAR-10 heavy buffer probably negate the weight savings from the re-profiled barrel. The rather heavy AAC silencer mount on the end of the barrel doesn't help either. Overall it balances better than when I first got it though...since a lot of the weight has been shifted rearward with that stock.
If you want a light weight rifle, I would start with something that works off the 5.56 frame. Building a light .308 is going to be expensive and you still might not be satisfied after you've done everything you can.
My next move to shave ounces on this rifle would be to buy a JP lightweight carrier for a couple hundred $$$, since the original carrier is quite substantial...and experiment with lighter buffer weights. I don't know what sort of effect this will have on reliability either.
