Just curious, could anyone tell which caliber Travis and Chris were using in their M&P's.

what kind of holsters are they running? It seems they can run a pistol with or without a light on it in the same holster.

Just curious, could anyone tell which caliber Travis and Chris were using in their M&P's. Having rented a 9mm full size today, it impressed the hell out of me. I was very impressed with the .40 compact I tried before, though I only got to try lighter 135 grain reloads with that particular compact. It really impressed me with the lack of difference in noticeable felt recoil between American eagle, Speer gold dot, Remington golden saber, and Wolf 9mm ammo (115 to 147 grain, normal, +p, and +p+ included). Wolf barely ran the gun, casings were just barely clearing the slide and landing a few inches to the right, full power was flying 15-20 feet - the sights always landed back in the same spot regardless of ammo power or projectile weight and the thing felt like the same recoil. The .45 model exhibited the same behavior, and the recoil was slightly lower than my 1911. This platform has astounded me the more I've shot it, and I'm a steel frame 1911/BHP single action/manual safety guy. I'm looking to get the M&P 9mm Pro (5" with a sear for lighter/shorter pulls and resets) in the near future. With the impressions I've been gotten so far, it may wind up replacing the 1911 as my primary carry gun if the shot timer backs up what I think is going on. Now if only they would release a metal framed M&P model I'd be in heaven |

Just curious but whats the point? besides being heavier and providing more slip that you have to work harder on or spend more money on to get to fit your hands better... |

Steel mags =/= steel pistol frames I like the extra heft, balance, and recoil absorption steel frames offer. The M&P sure didn't feel like I was shooting a polymer gun, but I still think it'd be neat to have a steel M&P pistol |

I wonder as well. I had huge corrosion issues with all four M&P's I owned. They do feel damn good in the hand, but I ultimately sold them and went back to my Glocks. I feel the Glock is way more user friendly as far a maintainance is concerned...knocking out a roll pin to remove the extractor and knocking off the rear sight to remove the firing pin safety kinda sucks. |

How often are you removing the roll pin for the extractor? Same goes for the rear sight... Well over 29000 rounds, probably closer to 30k at this point through my full size 9 and i havent removed the rear sight since 5k rounds in when i switched to warrens. I have yet to remove the extractor and probably never will. If you prefer glocks, cool beans but i wouldnt rule out the M&P because of corrosion issues, they've gotten alot better. Still not perfect but much better. I do agree on the corrosion issues although my most recent purchase, my compact with thumb safety holds up alot better than my 2008 model full size 9. |

everyone knows I love steel guns!... the more I think about it would be kinda cool with a custom steel grip + magwell like a Caspian recon race ready receiver...

They used to be all I carried for years... They just feel right and I can shoot the snot out of them. I will split an upcoming Hackathorn class 50/50, P30 day one Vickers Recon day two... |

The M&P Platform is a GREAT platform that alot of departments are starting to switch to from Glocks.
BTW Guys the redhead was NIIIIIIIICE to look at I almost forgot you guys were in the video! ;) |

on the pistol (M&P 9) Chris Costa is running, where are the mag extensions and threaded barrel available for sale?
thanks |

Quoted: on the pistol (M&P 9) Chris Costa is running, where are the mag extensions and threaded barrel available for sale? thanks The mag extensions look like Arrendondos, and S&W offered a threaded barrel for a while. However, they are out of stock and don't know if they'll be making any more. Storm Lake makes threaded M&P barrels though. ETA: To Chris and Travis: what do y'all carry on a daily basis? I assumed it was M&P 9s until I saw Chris with the M&P 45. |

How often are you removing the roll pin for the extractor? Same goes for the rear sight... More often than you'd think...every month or month and a half or so on my full sized 9 and full sized 45. Maybe I was just being nit picky but these were my IDPA pistols and at the time I was shooting pretty dirty lead reloads exclusively. I was shooting three to four IDPA matches a month along with a weekly practice session. Just to note though...I never once had a single malfunction even when the weapons got pretty gummy from lead, powder, and bullet lube. My full sized 45 had been worked over by Bowie Tactical Concepts and shot like a dream. After two slide replacements from S&W on just this pistol alone and having the other three rust as well, I was finished. This was maybe a little less than two years ago or so...hopefully S&W has the corrosion issues under control. |

How about posting a pic of the M&P you guys were using for the handgun DVD ? Thanks. Cheers, Gunner |

Are the Arredondos used to increase capacity during training only, or have they been durable enough to carry at all times?

Someone on AR15.com was selling a M&P9 Spec Ops with some "Custom" work labeled as the "Costa Package" Not sure if he just copied what he saw or if there was an actual Costa package out there. None the less the Spec Ops M&P9 comes with the threaded barrel, etc.
Here is the ad with some photos http://ee.ar15.com/ItemView.aspx?iid=44793 Since we are lucky to have Costa and Haley actually visit these boards and answer questions I would be an idiot to not take advantage of it. Did S&W approach you guys and ask you to use the M&P in the videos or do you actually prefer the M&P over other handguns like the Glock or 1911? Reason I ask is I am a M&P guy myself, but when the M&P sales rep guy introduced himself at the start of DVD1 my cop brain kicked in and just assumed S&W supplied the hardware. Since everything you guys touch in these videos turns to gold it's great press for the M&P so I'm not complaining, just curious your thoughts on the M&P and if it is your handgun of choice right now? Also, have you guys heard any scuttlebutt from any of your S&W contacts about the M&P maybe getting a little trigger work in the future out of the box? If I have one complaint with the M&P it's the lack of a crisp break and reset. If I could take the crisp trigger from a glock and throw it on the M&P it would be perfect. Luckily the M&P trigger is easily touched up by a third party to a nice crisp trigger. BTW- I'm a sucker for redheads. Willy made me smile. |

Thanks for the reply and the pics, the setup you guys used looks sweet. Usually I don't like these stippling jobs on the polymer guns, but yours looks very professional and clean.
Our Department went to the M&P40 about 4 years ago and it's been a solid performer for us ever since. |

I like the M&P, but the M&P 45 only carries a capacity of 10+1 rounds. The FNH FNP 45 by comparison gives you 15 rounds in the magazine. Plus, now we've go the FNP 45 Tactical coming our way. I know Costa used the M&P 9 and the M&P 45C.
The plus side to the M&P though is that you can get one in a large frame and compact frame pistol. |

Travis or Chris...What holster system do you use when your M&P is a secondary to your M4s? Do you still use the Raven in a different config? Also what modifications do you recomend for the trigger other than the sear, any travel reductions?

You need a 3 man squad to operate it. One to carry the mags, one to carry the bipod, and the shooter. lol Seriously though I hear good things about the FNH stuff, but it's not always about the capacity just ask the 1911 guys. |

Any issues with the +6 base plates. Feeding issues and such?
|
|
Costa, I am curious, I don't see a groove in the underside of the trigger guard to index the index finger of the support hand on the pistols you posted above. Any reason? I have only watched disk one, and only once, but that groove was one of the many, many things that jumped out at me.
Also glad I do not have to sell my GLOCKs. |

I'm about to send my M&P9 into Boresight for the 10-8 package.

I'm a Glock fanboy, but if I ever stray to another Tupper-gun, the M&P will most likely be the one. No internal lock or mag disconnect please.
