For those waiting for Magpul to release the button sling cup accessory (MAG335) for the excellent ACS stock before they purchase the stocks, I humbly offer this homebrew solution. I have three of the MAG335s on backorder with my gunsmithing supplier, and Magpul quoted them a six month ship time as of 9/25/09. Here's my homebrew solution. First, the part number for the QD bases from Brownells: 593-000-038 1" QD-100 Bases only, 10-Pak All you need after that is some readily available hardware. If you have an industrial supply store nearby, then you can find black oxide coated socket head flat screws and black oxide nuts, or order from an industrial supplier like McMaster.com. If you go mail order, you’ll have to buy a box of each item however. The nearest Home store offers a perfectly acceptable substitute, but you’ll be getting either zinc coated or stainless hardware. You may or may not wish to color these black. I left them bright for better contrast in the photos. 1 flat head machine screw #8-32 by 1” long. 1 #8 washer 1 #8-32 Nylock nut Additional notes: You won’t be able to have a QD base on both sides of the ACS stock with this setup. My understanding is that the Magpul version will be one sided also. There isn’t room inside the cup base for a nut, and if you tapped the existing hole, then the screw head size would be too large to fit inside the cup on the other side. Either a custom fastener is in order, or a custom base cup. I intend to fire up the old Southbend and make some base cups for myself. Anybody with a small Sherline or Taig lathe would find this a simple project. Pics Below: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
