I want it for slung work and storage/transportation purposes. That's where folders shine and "fixed" stocks suck. I'm hardly inclined to give up one of the best features of the design. you know, and they have probably already done it so I might be a little late, but they could just make the collapsible folding stock not fold and we would be fine. then you don't get into legal issues with the length of the rifle and you still have your collapsible stock. all they'd have to do is remove the hinge for civilian versions. I don't know when I'd ever be firing a rifle without the stock folded back anyways, so boom goes the dynamite.... Ok, that and because people in washington don't want me to have it. Isn't OAL determined with the stock extended? Hell, I forgot about that.... good catch. Yes. |

Has it been decided to stick with the Troy BUIS for the civilian version or will the Magpul BUIS be offered as a cheaper alternative?

If you want to go sleek, go w/ polymer hand guards(those could almost considered a work of art). I kinda like those handguards, actually. They sure beat the ugly quad-rail. I am pretty sure they did it to lighten up the weight just a little bit more, to make it a bit more attractive for any trials they may submit to. The Army Times article way back had the weight pegged as just a bit heavier than the M4. |

I personally like the new hand guards. They look like they would aid in barrel cooling, and make it look a little different than the scar.

now what would be cool is if someone made a backplate that fastened to the rear of the rifle that had a buffer tube attached (even though you don't need the buffer tube anymore) and then you could put on regular AR stocks.
EDIT - so that lower part of the rail that you can unattach for quick barrel changes, is that also compatible with the M203, for the military? |

I don't see what's wrong with people having the choice to put a UBR or SOPMOD stock on their ACR if that's what they decide on. Makes the modular ACR even more modular. It will happen, just like with the SG556, XCR, etc... AR stocks are now considered "universal". |

One of the largest limitations to the AR platform is the stock and the controls surrounding it. Remember this is coming from a Magpul guy, AR lover. The ACR stocks correct many of the short commings of the AR stocks, cheek height adjustment, folding options, pistol set ups, ect. Look at the AK. There are lots of guys out there that use AR stocks on them, shit I'm one of them. It doesn't mean they are the best option, it's just an option. All of this said, I would venture to beleive that as the ACR progresses there will be all sorts of options out there for the ACR to include additional stocks made by Magpul (and others) that will fill the rolls of your fav AR stock. |

Yea CTR stock just looks weird on it. the UBR looks better, but still would choose the ACR stock

As Drake rightly points out, AR collapsible stocks are constrained by a number of design limitations that do not appear on the ACR. Indeed. AR stocks have come an awful long way, but they're probably nearing how far you can take them. The next non-bolt gun I buy will be my "replacement" homeland defense rifle. I will sell one of my higher priced, but less shot, ARs for it. In order for that to happen, though, it's gotta be a fairly big improvement over the DI AR system. Nothing on the shelves fits the bill to me, thus far, so I've stayed with my ARs. This is why I'm very hopeful for a reasonably priced, folding stock ACR. It would fix the few limited flaws of the AR system, for me. Granted, however, my ARs run more than fine for what I do, minus some storage/transportation aggravation. ETA* there are other things I'm excited about on this gun, one just happens to be the rear stock. I love the non-reciprocating charging handle idea and the completely ambi controls.... don't wanna sound like I'm fixating. |

The ambi handle was a feature that I thought was pretty cool, although with an ambi bolt catch I guess it's a little redundant. |

With that said, who the hell would want to put an AR stock on an ACR!!!???? There has also been a lot of, "I want this, or that". As far as I'm concerned, I don't care what configuration comes out first, so long as it comes out. Other stocks/handguards and I'm sure alloy lowers will be offered by Magpul/others. I can build one up that suits me just fine, and I'll take whatever get's introduced. |

I'm in love with the folding ACR stock myself. I love the CTR on my grendel but from what I've seen the ACR stock looks to be rock solid. As far as the charging handle I actually liked the first iteration where you could push it to either side quickly but I'm not sure how the new one works so I guess I'll just have to wait for Rem LE to start selling.

My FFL finally located the "ACR" pre-order flyer. Though it does mention the ACR, the quoted $2176 price is actually for the new Keltec .308 bullpup
Good new is BM sales said they should begin taking pre-orders in a month or two. |

Drake, or anyone else in the know, I suppose this may have been asked before in this thread but with the popularity of the MIAD, M&P, XDM, and their adjustable back straps for sizing (in addition to the Tango down grip at a different size), why was there a decision to have a fixed unchanging grip size? Not saying this is a bad decision just wondering why. Thanks

Kinda wondering this myself... my guess would be that the polymer receiver needs the strength. New handguard = extruded aluminum (or possibly plate) = cheap to produce, lightweight, and flexible in layout = GOOD decision |

I don't see why they couldn't just mold in the points for attaching standard AR-15 pistol grips and trigger guards. The mold would be less complex than the current one and make the weapon much more modular than molding in a MIAD. O wait! Between my mill and the plasti welder I can do that all myself! |

Kinda stupid IMO that they made it accept a trigger guard, when most replace with a Magpul anyhow. How many have lusted over a Magpul AR lower? If Magpul or BM doesn't offer a lower with a built in trigger guard someone else will. Just say'n. JMHO-FWIW. ETA: Just noticed in the PIC that the lower shown does have a Magpul trigger guard installed... |
|
As long as they're making it compatible with AR bits, may as well make it really compatible. By making the alternate lower take AR trigger guards, it also makes a folding trigger guard an option if the user needs/wants the option (mittens, perhaps).

I actually like how this thing is turning out. The more I see that fixed stock the more I really like it, and I actually like that dark/light tan combo color. The new lower hand guard looks like you could put a shit load of rails on it, and it looks cool in a unique way. In its current form, how much does this weapon weigh?

Yes in front of the pivot pin at the base of the hand guard.
I was thinking that it may be something to do with the quick change barrel system... Maybe to make it easier to use more standard AR type barrels. WP |

Wow, seems to already be a lot of options for handguards. The tan aluminum ones, the black AAC ones, the remington quad rail system, and most likely the cool polymer ones we've all lusted after.
This rifle is going to be released with a lot of modular accessories for it. Look at all the stocks and forearms that have already been designed. I mean, people were complaining about the lower being polymer instead of aluminum, and the lower not taking standard AR grips. Looking in the pics above it seems both of those options are also going to be available. I can't explain how excited I am about this rifle. Probably not as excited as someone who will be able to afford it upon release. This system will be be big and I think it will be worth the wait. People are going to be surprised. |
