and this one last Sunday near Brownville.

Good pics.

That moose is a very large animal.

What caliber does it take to bring one down?

I've never had the opportunity to hunt moose, but I'm sure you've asked in the right forum.

I wouldn't try it without at minimum .308 or 30-06, but I think I'd go with something like 300 Win Mag. I'm sure someone can correct me.

eta, here's a couple links I found with a quick yahoo search. Lots of pictures

A friend of mine took a moose with a 20ga slug one time.  Old timers used to talk about taking moose with a .22 semi auto.  They said just keep shooting the moose in the boiler house and he will go down.  (I don't support poaching, just repeating the story)

I know one guy I work with shot his with 30-06 I believe, but his designated secondary shooter was carrying a 30-30. I really love 30-30 for deer etc. but not sure if I would go that small for moose.

Nice tender young moose.

Heard of some getting caught by rope from a boat.
Also with a .22 pistol.
Do not condone poaching.

For years all a cousin used was a 30/30 trapper.

Moose season has started up here on federal lands.
Starts in Sept for state land.

Weather is to warm.
It is in the 50's and 60's.
Will be like for at least a week.
Cannot keep the meat cool in rural Ak right now.
Some numb nuts will waste moose getting them this early.

No prob on the q's

ah, that makes sense. Yeah, I wouldn't want to try to cool an animal that big, or a deer for that matter, in 50 or 60 degree weather either. One advantage to cool autumns. Our season isn't till roughly October and November.
