Seriously Feral, I've followed your posts here in the SF and especially in the Food & Garden section for awhile now.  How big is your garden?!?!

You can dry a lot of it for fruit leather
can preserves or jam - I freeze my jams though
I like storing whole raspberries frozen in quart bags.  Then you can take out what you need for adding to recipes and also fruit smoothies.
With 300 feet I hope you have a lot of freezer room.

good luck with the birds and harvest.

raspberry and jalepeno jelly poured over a room temp hunk of cream cheese is pretty good. I'm going to try to make some when mine ripen this Fall.

My practice raspberries planted in Feb. aren't in enough sun. Got some berries but they were leetle beety. After I so some logging this fall I may have a chance at bigger berries.

I planted some this spring along the south side of my garage.  They're doing double-duty as a source of food, and as a nasty barrier to the garage windows.  I don't expect much from them this year as they're still pretty small, but next year we should have a decent little harvest.

That's possible......... I planted some kinda spindly plants in February. I'm surprised that they produced anything at all as I put them on an end of the garden that gets about 4 hours of sun a day, this was just a test. I've been reading up and it's time to prune out this years dead canes and clip the ends of the new canes. I've also got to get over my fear of pruning my blueberry bushes also. They are two years old and need a pro to prune them properly the first time.

I thought raspberries liked shade.  The wild ones do, anyway.  Your plot looks very good, regardless.  I love raspberries.

I haven't tried this, but I'll bet those raspberries would make an AWESOME homemade ice cream!

We like to make blackberry ice cream here, raspberries don't grow so well.  We squish out the seeds and use the juice.  Starting with our vanilla ice cream recipe, we add 24-32 oz juice and then last add milk to the fill line.  Give it the taste test before freezing to make sure you don't want to add more sugar.  Actually, my wife cheats and uses store-bought jelly (no seeds) most of the time because the berries have to be used for making cobbler (unwritten law at our house).  Most visitors look at that purple stuff kinda funny but once they taste it they are hooked.

Also, I have determined that fresh raspberries and whipped cream are wonderful additions to a hot Dutch Baby!

feral, can you explain pruning on those everbearing rasberries?  I understand primocanes/floricanes for blackberries that bear in spring, but I'm a little confused on the everbearing ones...thanks.

We also have varieties of ever bearings. In the late fall, or very early spring, I just cut all of them down to about 6" . They will grow back through the summer and produce large crops like pictured . They  are easier than non ever bearings.

Thanks for the pruning link. I'm generally scared that I will FUBAR the plant if I prune wrong so I haven't. This helps alot. I've got 2 year blueberries and 1 year raspberries to do.

Care to share your vanilla ice cream recipe?

The one we like is a very basic vanilla.  (We use a 4 qt. freezer)

Stir together with a fork or whisk:
6 eggs
2 3/4 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 quart cream

Pour into freezer
Add milk to bring volume up to freezer's "fill" line

We don't cook the custard but most recipes recommend that you do when it contains eggs (health reasons, salmonella I think).  Various flavors are made by adding them to the vanilla recipe.  Fruits like strawberries and peaches work best if slightly over-ripe.

You can replace about 1/2 the milk with mashed fruit, juice or jelly to create various flavors.

When we use jelly, we cut back to about 1/2 the sugar since the jelly is sweetened already.  It helps if you warm the jelly (microwave is OK) and stir it in before adding the milk.

Adjust the recipe to your tastes.

It will probably be best if you use juice without the seeds.
