I would like to know i these knives most people out in the world think that one knife can do it all.... In theory it should but incorrect. I infact three different knives in my BOB. One is of course my trust Ka-Bar Tanto tip (shorter version). This is my slient but deadly knife i carry next to my .357. I also carry my gerber multi-tool. Dont like leatherman sorry i know but i like the cool slide action for my pliers and ive had this multi-tool for 12 years lastly i have my sog seap pup. Now some of you may wonder "isnt this just added weight one should be enough" it should but well you know.
Heres each knife's purpose: Ka-Bar: to cut small brances limbs to help/assit making camp as well as the last line of defence Multi-tool: self explanitory i hope Seal Pup: it has one pupose gutting out game. The main reason why i use a seperate knife for game is to help prevent disease and taste. espically being out in the boonies mine as well make it as sanatary as possible Question is everyone in agreement disagreement puzzeled. I would love some feedback it be great i have always had a multi knife system for years worked well no hiccups except when some Jackwagon stole my first Ka-Bar |

1. Buck Hoodlum
2. Cold Steel SRK 3. Leatherman PST I've had since 1984. This is what I have in my GHB. |

I have an OLD Ontario RAK (I think it's called) it is pre ESEE by about ten years, a Leatherman Wave and a Mora thrown in the pack. Wife has a Mora bushcrafter. Oldest son has a Mora survival knife (the smallish one with the red handle and the finger guard).
|
|
A few Mora's, a SOG Multi-tool, and a tiny SAK.
Also keep a pry bar attached to the pack. (For serious prying instead of using a fixed blade) Can ditch it if need be, but I am concerned about earthquakes and like to have it handy if need be. |

I used to always pack my Ka-bar fighting knife along on backpacking/camping trips for doing the big heavy work/survival type stuff. Then i realized I never used it and a big sheath knife can be just dead weight. Now I just carry my Leatherman Wave and a Micra on my key ring. No complaints and I haven't missed it yet.

Cold Steel SRK
plus CRKT Crawford Falcon (I bought several of these on clearance at Gander Mtn a few years back) |

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/omega62/Buck1.jpg Buck 119. Also my Leatherman multi-tool of course. I have a boatload of knives ( have not lost them in a boating accident yet!) and this is still what I carry most often. |
|
Knives play roles like any other tool.
I use the following in my BOB: SOG Tomahawk Cold Steel Bushman Some real cheap tanto from US Cav. Two box cutters and extra blades EDC: Kirshaw Blackout Gerber small folder Gerber Artifact with the exacto blade Leatherman Wave Trunk: Gerber Brush Cutter (concave curve machete) With all of that, I am ready from anything from a splinter removal to clearing brush and making a small shelter. Given all that, I'd probably use a combination of the tomahawk and a box cutter for game. I have the feeling if you are getting game, you'll have fire and could pretty easily "bake" your knives to a good enough heat to kill any viruses or bacteria on it. |

Al Mar SERE, Nam Era Hawk, CRKT M-16 and OLD OLD OLD 1950 case boy scout pocket knife with 4 blades IIRC
|

I have a Case stockman pocket knife in my pocket, always..... always.
I have a mora, and a small camp ax strapped to the side of my GHB, and BOB. I love smaller axes and camp hatchets that can easily do double duty as a hammer or prying tool, plus the benefit of quickly accessing areas that may need accessing in an emergency. And of course a Gerber Multitool in each bag. I also have a Kukri under my seat in my work vehicle, and since we do alot of trapping at work we are required by the State to carry a .22 rifle. Nice huh? (plus the 12ga and the 9mm and I'm pretty much covered) |

I I also carry my gerber multi-tool. Dont like leatherman sorry i know but i like the cool slide action for my pliers and ive had this multi-tool for 12 years nothing to be sorry about... if you like the "cool hand pinching action" go for it! i bought one way back, 14+ years ago and couldn't stand the way ot would pinch my hand if it slipped off something... which it always did. if you want a vintage Eddie Bauer edition i'll make you a good deal! in my GHB in the truck i have a Kershaw Outcast and a CRKT Cruiser. also have an Estwing Cruiser axe. the two items with similar names are pure coincidence. also have a small knife in the center console, but it serves more as a money clip for a few bucks in change i keep there. IIRC it's another CRKT that i got cheap somewhere or as a gift. my EDC knife us usually a ZT 0200 but has also been a Benchmade AFCK, and before that a Spyderco Delica and Endura. for a keep it in the truck knife some of the Schrade clones of the CRK one piece knives may make sense. and their SCHG9 looks like a good blade too you can find that for about $35 online. may replace the Outcast in the truck with this because the kraton on the Outcast might not hold up so well in the heat. ETA, OK, scratch that, the SCHF9 has kraton scales as well. back to wanting an ESEE 5 for the truck! those are NOT $35! |

I always edc my Spyderco original mini Manix. BOB has a ESEE 6 and a Leatherman Charge.

I've had it since I was 13 and it has never failed me. I just put a nice new edge on it the other night. I also have one of those micro tiny leathermans with the spring loaded pliers in my bag and a Kukri lashed to my bag. I am finding it hard to rationalize having both my buck knife and the kukri in my bag... but for now, that is what I have. I just can't give up my buck knife. |

I have some sort of multi-tool. perhaps a Gerber, perhaps not.

I love a good carabiner, but WOW! I dont hike with those hanging out....Those would be secured inside the pack...They just happened to be out when I took the pic... Plus, dont you want Santa visiting you in the deep woods with lots of new survival gear and ammo when you need it most? I LOVE GIFTS.............. |

Yeah, they come with that nylon sheath now. The old leather sheaths were nicer. Not sure about the sheaths, but the knives themselves are still quality made in the USA. A good Buck knife will last forever. |

Main knife is the Gerber LMF II
But must also say that we have a few others as well, but not considered as primary.
