OK guys, I'm new at this, so bear with me.  I just read something on this site that scared the hell out of me!! (imagine that) On one of your other posts, someone was asking for advice on the most beneficial length for a SBR.  One of the replies stated that BATF/NFA was thinking about considering a preban gun converted to a SBR post 94 to be the manufacture of a new (post 94) weapon, and therefore falling under the auspices of said BULL*&#! AWB.  Any info on this would be greatly appreciated since I have just sent off my hard earned greenbacks to register my preban colt 9mm!!! P.S.- If there is any truth to this, is there any hope of reversing this procedure.[>Q][NEWBIE]

You can do an SBR on a pre-ban grandfathered AR-15 receiver, and still have all the evil features.  It's only post-ban receivers made into SBR's which must abide by the post-ban restrictions (since they're still semi-autos with detachable magazines).

There's a letter from the ATF tech branch at bardwell's law and legal archive over at cmu.edu (link is 'pinned' at the top of the legal discussion forum), specifically addressing this issue, and stating that it's ok to retain pre-ban features if the SBR was made on a pre-ban lower.
