Does anyone know the legality of shooting on private land, especially in IL?

Generally speaking about all you need is the landowners permission. No permission=trespassing.

Some states may require you to carry a written note with you. But unless you have a sheriffs' deputy or game warden on the lookout for you this is more of a formality.

I doubt IL has anything much different. You could call your Dist. Attorney though.
