Anyone know?  Appearently Ted Turner owns the more land than any other American (~2 million acres) but it is distributed over 12 states.

I'm curious who owns the largest single parcel of contiguous land in the US besides the government or churchs.

I would bet it is in Texas, I believe that it is like 93% + of the state is privately owned, and a lot of that was/is large ranches.

You sure ted turner owns the most land? I was thinking that mcdonalds and/or the catholic church owned the most land in the US (With the government being second).

Also , bill gates is buying land at a pretty rapid pace........he bought around 6,000 acres (that's just under 10 square miles) in central Ohio near Columbus.

King Ranch, located in south Texasbetween Corpus Christiand Brownsville, is one of the world's largest ranches, but only 15% as large as Anna Creek stationin South Australia). It is the largest ranch in the United States.[citation needed] The 825,000 acres(3,340 km2; 1,289 sq mi)[3] ranch, founded in 1853 by Captain Richard Kingand Gideon K. Lewis, includes portions of six Texas counties, including most of Kleberg Countyand much of Kenedy County, with portions extending into Brooks, Jim Wells, Nueces, and Willacycounties. The ranch does not consist of one single contiguous plot of land, but rather four large sections called divisions. Only two of the four divisions border each other, and that border is relatively short.[4] The ranch was designated a National Historic Landmarkin 1961.[2][5]
