The Colt thread got me wondering what the hive mind thinks about this.
List your top 5 AR15 manufacturers in order. You can list more than 5 if you wish. |
In no order:
Knights Noveske Daniel Defense lMT Colt Ok maybe it is that order. |
1. Glock
2. Olympic 3. In n out #1 animal style 4. lulwut 5. ....... |
Quoted: 1. Glock 2. Olympic 3. In n out #1 animal style 4. lulwut 5. ....... Done. I was wondering what to get for lunch. |
darn...RIF...I thought it said "List your top 5 AR malfunctions"
I'll put anything made by Hesse in my #1 spot...I'll leave 2-5 for someone else. |
Bushy. Only one I've ever needed and without the fag accessories...
Top 5 of the ones I currently own by numbers in my collection, or top 5 by quality in my own personal experience (since I won't conjecture about the quality of those I haven't owned/shot)?
LMT
Thats all I need Never could afford a LaRue lower but one day rabbit, one day |
LMT
Noveske Knights BCM Colt If Larue made put together ARs they would be on the list too. |
As predicted, there is no huge difference in quality between most manufacturers. Of course there is (and will be shortly demostrated) more than enough kool-aid to go around, for most brands.
I was happy with my Bushmaster but sold it as it wasn't a "real" flat-top; the rail was raised. I am happy with my S&W. There isn't any major brand that I would reject out of hand for quality issues. There may be some 'minor' brands that I would avoid out of ignorance of their quality (or lack thereof), but that's it. |
I have been shooting AR's since 1979.
They are all the same. |
Quoted: You decide. Okay. Dismissing the self-builds (which I refuse to attribute to a manufacturer just because I used their lower), which are the majority of my ARs, and counting only complete factory rifles bought that way, the ones I currently own the most of are: 1. Bushmaster 2. Colt 3. DPMS 4. Olympic (don't snicker, 2 of them are GL-1s that have been flawless for me) 5. The rest tied at 1 each If I looked back at all of the factory-complete ARs I had owned over the years it wouldn't change much, except I've had several Armalites in the past. As to quality, I've never had to send a factory AR back for warranty repairs yet (just lucky, I guess). The only factory AR that ever gave me trouble was a DPMS, and even it worked its own problem out after a few hundred rounds. YMMV. |
Quoted: No love for Mega? Mine has been excellent. I didn't realize they made complete rifles. |

It's easier for me to list who I avoid. The rest are ok with me.
Bushmaster Vulcan Hesse Blackthorne Whatever the name is now for the companies formerly known as Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorne |
KAC
Noveske BCM Colt LWRC LMT Daniel Defense and I'm sure there are many more |

I only have experience with Bushmaster, and it hasn't failed me once
That being said from all the talk, pricing, etc Colt, Larue, LMT are all up their in the top tier. |

Vulcan - Used by Special Olympic Forces
Olympic - same Olympics as above but not officially issued Mattel - My Grand Father was issued an M16 when he fought at the Alamo and it said Mattel on it. We lost because it jammed so much. Century - Same quality as their fine Cetme rifles. Colt - They make parts for Century |

They get everything from CMT. |
