In terms of accuracy and reliability, what do you consider to be the best .45 ACP semi-auto available today –– and why so?  (There are so many platforms and manufacturers that I'm not even going to attempt a poll.)

Are you attempting to purchase the best or is this just another quagmire?

IMO the SIG P220.

I used to have a couple of them; they were accurate, extremely reliable, and a joy to shoot.

I will throw this out there and get an obscure one out of the way:

CZ-97b. I know there are better makes out there, I just love mine. Great value for the money.

If they were so great, why did you get rid of them?  Let me guess.  So you could get a Glock?

Honorable mentions:

Les Bear Thunder Ranch Special (yes, that's a 1911).

Sig P220 (West German only).

Not very common but you can still buy them and they kick the shit out of almost all 45's. Smith Performance Center  pistols are among the very best. Extremely durable, reliable and accurate:

I had a Colt Combat Commander, that thing sucked donkey balls.  I have a Springfield Loaded 1911, it's been flawless.  I also have a CZ 97B, also flawless.  Sometimes I think I prefer the CZ.  It feels bigger in the hand than the 1911, due to the doublestack mag, but it handles and shoots great.  I used to have a S&W 745, it ran like a top and was very accurate.
