As per another thread, they are going through stuff in my grandparents basement. My mom found these two manuals for aircraft engines. My grandpa worked on planes for the Navy in WWII.

One is an operators handbook, and the other is an Overhaul manual. Both are in great shape. Both must have been printed on good paper - as its still very white. The both have pull out schematics of the engine - the overhaul one has every nut and bolt listed it looks like.

Any idea on worth? Looking around it looks to me they might be worth a few hundred each.

If it were up to my mom, she would just give them to me - but the others think they might get something for it at an estate sale.

Also - what were the Wasp and Hornet engines put into?

Sorry for the shitty quality. My digital camera run out of batteries, and my cell phone sucks. I tried to brighten and sharpen things up.

the P&W WASP was a common engine, neat books you have their.  

Make sure they go to someone who can use them, as radials are becoming more of a art to maintain as opposed to a skill.

P&W's radials owned the aircraft engine market in the US military, circa WWII. Other than the V- block designs (RR Merlins, and Allison), or smaller horizontally opposed aircraft engines (for spotter aircraft like Cubs) from Lycoming or Continental, I can't think of a more prolific manufacturer.

.... Wright and Continental, anyone?  AFAIK, the only two engines ever put in any model of Corsair are the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Twin Wasp (NOT a Wasp) and the P&W 4360.

I HIGHLY doubt they are 'reproductions'. They are on quality paper, one in a 3 ring binder, one bound. There is also a leather folder with papers marked 'restricted' that were instructional papers for the training he had in Corpus Cristi. These binders were probably manuals from that training - as they are in such great shape. No doubt they are vintage, because he didn't work on planes after the war.

They aren't totally bad for wanting to sell stuff - the money is going for my grandmas care and bills. Still - I might have my mom make the case to my grandma for the manuals. They would make a good birthday present.
