Polls find Californians optimistic about Obama Peter Hecht The Dow is down more than half. California's unemployment rate has climbed above 10 percent. Furlough seems to be the word of the day. Yet California voters are more optimistic about the direction of the country than eight months ago. And so far, they seem willing to put their trust in President Barack Obama. In the past three years, the percentage of Californians who believed the country was seriously on the wrong track climbed from fewer than half of voters in January 2004, to three-fourths by last July. Yet despite the Golden State's worsening woes, attitudes are now changing. According to a new state Field Poll, 42 percent of California voters believe the country is headed in the right direction – a 27 percentage-point jump from July. Meanwhile, two-thirds of voters approve of the job Obama is doing to date. "They're taking in the message of hope and change," said California Field Poll Director Mark DiCamillo. "There are very few people who think things are going well. But in a time of severe economic downturn, the outlook of Californians has improved. "A lot of it has to do with this pent-up desire to replace President Bush. Now there's a new leader at the helm, and people feel better about it." Obama's California approval rating of 65 percent is the highest for any early-term president since April 1981 when voters favored fellow Californian Ronald Reagan by 74 percent. Democrat John F. Kennedy was the highest rated, at 76 percent approval, in February 1961. Some 62 percent of California voters approve of Obama's handling of the economy. Meanwhile, by 52 percent to 36 percent, voters support the $787 billion stimulus package that Obama backed and Congress approved. |

In before the members from California try to convince us that the people in Califronia are just as conservative as the people in any other state.

You know the MSM is going to skew things a bit.
I can already see the writing on the wall for 2012: "The first four years was fixing Bush's fuckups and trying to come out from under Bush's shadow. Why, he now needs another four years so he can really get down to fixing things HIS way. C'mon, it's only fair." |
Considering California went for Hillary in the primaries, this makes it interesting news for me. I thought Hillary supports were angry with Obama and 25% vowed to vote for McCain and 21% did.
Fuck california. Fuck california and its stupid stuck up ass. The only good californians are leaving in droves.
california is responsible for raising the fucks who are screwing up Nevada, Utah and Colorado.. |
That 62% they are quoting is mostly a bunch of illegals, I gather?
Of course, Obama is going to punish those greedy rich and bring them Breads and Circuses
Even the Democrats who voted for him are having buyer's remorse.
CA is full of half-brain idiots who believe what ever the fuck they hear on TV.....What a shock!
The ones here will suck his dick even if he said he was going to take their homes and 401Ks. |

No love for the 38% who don't approve of his performance and the 48% who dissapprove of his stimulus plan? Imagine being one of those 38% living in California with the 62%.
For example, 20% of San Francisco aren't liberal or to use the new term "progressive" according to city polls. Imagine what it must be like for those people? I know 2 of them. Really nice guy surrounded on a day to day basis. One says he won't move because he won't give up the city to liberals and the other received a lucrative job offer 2 years ago. |

Some Californians like the guy I know who lives in the Sunset district of San Francisco, would argue it wouldn't be such a high percentage if all the people who moved to Arizona, Nevada and Colorado hadn't left. He always says "fight them here or you'll have to fight them there"
Now the only non-liberal counties are inland, except for the Lake Tahoe ski resort area. Even San Diego, San Luis Obispo and Orange county are 50/50 and Riverside is beginning to turn a deeper blue. |
Well CA sure sets a great example. If they approve, you know it's bad.

Given the condition California is in, I'd imagine doing the exact oppostie of what they think is good would be the best.
Of course California is going to like Obama. Style over Substance. Entitlement over Responsibility. It's the California way. |

I lived in FT Rucker alabama most of my life, went in to the service 88 and was stationed in ca.
I have lived here 21 years and still have not made any friends because people here think that they are better than everyone. They are absolute sheep, they do whatever the dems tell them to do. I also live in davis where the men are women and women are men and everyone has on a obama shirt. Cant wait to move one day |
I would like to see the questions asked in all these polls rating Obanger favourably.
The important thing is getting a budget approved in CA. The Democrats have 5 Initiatives on the May ballot and without passing them they will be starting over or dead in the water. That is what most Californians are concerned with.
These polls are fluff. They are just interviewing relatives of the Black Knight of Monty Python fame....yeah, he had a few offspring before he lost it. |

I educated some Californians about that BS porkulus bill the other day. I will be doing this again tonight when I go hang out with an old friend in SF. |

I grew up in the San diego east county, on the family ranch. Very conservative area. One of my early memories is my dad taking me to John Birch Society meetings.
Right now I live in Escondido (north SD county). Most of my adult life, my congressmen were either Duncan Hunter or Randy "Duke" Cunningham. |

I feel like I'm living in my own little world, cause I sure the hell don't approve but it seems like large segments of the nation sure do. Are we both watching the same news and reading the same newspapers? Does everyone but me get their news from John Stewart and MSNBC? Somehow I'm not too impressed with the opinions of the residents of THE premier socialist bastion within the US.
Seems their decision making has been, well, faulty.... |

What else do they have. Nothing to be really optimistic out there.sorry. IOU tax refunds, next IOU pay checks.

California Stimulus Payment Won't Eliminate Tax Increases
Thursday, March 05, 2009 - 01:30 PM BJ Hansen MML News Reporter Sacramento, CA –– The Associated Press reports that California won't get enough federal stimulus money to avoid higher personal income taxes and deeper social service cuts. State lawmakers and the Governor made $2.7 billion in tax increases and spending cuts contingent on how much money comes in from Washington, DC. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Finance Director Mike Genest says that the state will fall $2 billion dollars short of the amount needed to stop higher taxes and more cuts from happening this year. The state is set to receive around $8 billion from the Stimulus Package. http://www.mymotherlode.com/News/article/kvml/1236287743 |
