p. 11 of the Brady wish list:  "We agree with President-elect Obama that we can uphold the Second Amendment “while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals.”71 Assault weapons are semiautomatic versions of fully automatic guns designed for military use. This phrase has no bearing in law.  It is applicable only to imported firearms.  

The concept that civilians should only "be allowed" to own firearms for "sporting purposes" is a European Nazi era concept.  It has no place in a free country.

There was no drop in gun crimes with passage of the '94 AWB and there was no "resurgence" in gun crimes with its expiration.
