I'm from out west. The only reference to the KKK that I've ever seen has been in movies or the occasional documentary. There are no KKK rallies or meetings here. There were a few, and I mean a few, skinheads around in the nineties. Is the KKK real or a minority boogeyman? I'm talking right now, 2008, not years ago. |
AS of 15 years ago, they were alive and well near Charleston, SC. Certanily within driving distance. WE used to call a local message number and guffaw at the Deliverance accented guy railing about minorities, then giving directions to a rally/meeting.

No I expect the feds hit them hard.
More a social club for old pissed white guys |
Just because they don't have robes doesn't mean shit... |
They are real, just not as organized and leadership is very poor, but they are around
They exist, but they are nothing more than handfuls of people marching in funny outfits once or twice a year.
The days of lynchings and burning crosses are long, long gone. |
Oh they were real!
They were still highly active as late as the 1970s. Youngster, eh? EDIT: Oh sorry. I thought you were asking if they were EVER real. My apologies for not reading carefully. |
Last weekend, they had a rally in a small town about an hour away from here.

What part of Washington are you from? The Eastern side of the state is actually pretty racist. The town I grew up in had a law on the books that said that no minority is allowed outside their home after dark. Not that it was ever enforced, but the Klan had rallies and marches at the yearly fairs up till the 80's.

Trust me, they are real. Used to have rallies near my house. When I was in boys scouts, we had one black boy in there with us. We were hiking down the road to a lake we were going fishing in that day. He didn't walk far because our leaders realized we were going to walk right beside where the rally was going to be that night, and they were there getting ready. They put him in the truck and took him to the lake and he got an hour or two more fishing than we did. GR |

I went to college with two guys whose dads were in the Klan, so they definitely existed. I don't think they have much influence anymore.

Deader than a doornail.
The KKK reached it's peak in the 1920s I believe, but I seriously doubt any of the knuckleheads you see now in white sheets have the clout or organization the KKK once had. And rightfully so. |
I think there are a few KKK groups around yet, but they have been completely marginalized and are pretty much a complete political non-entity.
I think it's a combination of the MSM completely ignoring them, the ignorance of their leadership, and the moral bankruptcy of so much of what they purport to stand for. Another thing I think damages them, is the wide range of people/groups they oppose. Last I checked they pretty much hate anyone who is not a white protestant with no Jewish ancestry. |
Completely fake, just like the holocaust...
Completely real. There's a KKK chapter in Utah (supposedly), which is odd because I only see an African American person about once every couple of weeks. Seriously, I didn't see an African American in person until after I graduated high school, which was in 2002. It wasn't until after Katrina and some of them moved here that I started seeing them on a semi-regular basis. |

Well, you fit in somewhere ... just not certain that its here. Here we are more interested in how and what a guy shoots more than the color of his skin. |
The Klan is still around but only remnants of it. In my area of Virginia, Virginia Beach, I've hear rumors of the occasional rally out in Pungo. But that's just hearsay.
How ever I do remember a local National Park giving the KKK and Black Panthers permits to have a rally on the same weekend a few years back. |
Alive and well just up the road from me. They do have rallies and cross "illuminations". Once a year they have a thing called Nordic Fest that brings in all sorts of interesting types from all over the US. I shoot at the range in their neighborhood.

Didn't we used to have a policy against feeding the trolls? If this guy thinks all arfcommers are Klukkers perhaps he needs the permaban... |

There is an old guy who puts out a sign close by advertising for the Klan. Other than that, there's no activity around here.
Not here you aren't. |

Beardstown and the old standby Pekin. Or maybe its the same group. I dont know, but once every few years you will read in the paper that there is some event in Pekin. Fuck the KKK, and Fuck Obama. |

Thats the main problem, you want to hate blacks, gays or mexicans, its not hard to find people to do that. When you want to hate blacks, mexicans, gays, jews and catholics then its hard. |

There was a rally in Bowling Green, Ky about 5 years ago. From what I heard it was about 20 people in their robes yelling their message over loud music. The police divided the area into "for" and "against" for those that showed up. There were 3 people in the for and a few hundred in the against side. The community even organized a special diversity rally in response which was much better attended.
I used to work third shift in factory down in Scottsville, Ky back when I was in college. A couple of guys there showed me their membership cards and asked if I wanted to attend a meeting with them. I did not. |

I'm from Spokane. I haven't seen this. |

The novelty of dressing up like an utter prick and referring to each other as Grand High Wizard Lord must have worn off after a few years.

There was a show on the Klan last night on the history channel (or some similar channel). It was kind of interesting in a sad way to see some of the history of it. I've heard from my mom that my grandfather was in the Klan back in the 20's-30's. She said that he claimed to have lynched at least one person and he kept a finger in a jar on his dresser as long as she could remember.
Pretty brutal stuff. |
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. They are all good (if misguided) until they prove themselves otherwise. That *may* have been an attempt at humor. |
the Klan pretty much ran Dallas thru the 1960's and there is at least one klaxxon still active that I know of.
my first wifes uncle was the Kludd around Vidor Tx in the late 60's and her Father was Exalted Cyclops in Beaumont and my Brother in law as Asian |
Dude, don't risk a CoC violation over this guy. He is obviously a troll trying to bait us into commiting CoC violations, thus fulfilling his trollish image of an arfcomm filled with knuckle-dragging racist gun nuts... Hopefully the mods have already lowered the ban hammer on his ass. |

Spokane is a little large, head out into the sticks. |
There was a big KKK lodge (or whatever you call it) in Pasadena, Texas when I lived there in the early 80's.
In Michigan, they orchestrated the creation of gun control laws to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. It blows gun control-types minds when I tell em' that they have more in common with the Klan than I do. |

My knuckles don't drag... |

A friends dad was in it, he told us some stories but told us not to ever join it, I suppose he had some bad expierences. He still had 2 of the robes one red and one white.
