If we could get a shoot together in the Cincinnati/Dayton area I would be there along with a buddy of mine that is an AR owner.

It would have to be on a Saturday though.

Spring Valley would be fine.

Holes45, the range I am talking about is a state range in the Grand Valley Wildlife area in N. Trumbull County.  From downtown, it would probally take you 45 min. to an hour to get there.  I can give you more specific instructions on how to get there if you want.

The range is only 2 years old.  Has 25, 50 and 100 yard ranges with nice, covered benches.  Unfortunately, only shooting at paper is allowed.  Also, there is no provision for shooting distances longer than 100 yards.

Cost is $3 per session (no limit on time) or $10 a year (with hunting or fishing license) or $15 a year (without license).  Buy your pass in advance.

If you like shooting trash (hey, we all do it), you can go to A&A off Rt. 422 (on the way to Warren).  Cost is $8 per hour.  They also have a 200 yard range.

I go to the steel plate shoots at Tusco in Midvale in Tusc county. It's about 40 minutes but worth the drive. Also Mapleton in East Canton. Mostly trap shooting there but on off nights and days you can pretty much have the place to yourself. E-mail me for more info I'm in Perry Twp.

I probably won't be back to spring valley until January some time, I need to pick up more ammo.  I usually go on saturdays, sometimes sundays. I'm pretty flexible on that.

Hey, I shoot at grand valley pretty often. Over the summer and fall I was there every two weeks. Some of the new RO's are real dicks. The new safety stuff is a pain, I never saw a problem before. All in all its a nice range though and only about 15-20 minutes from home in SW trumbull county. Otherwise i shoot on private property.

I actually appreciate the range rules there.  I've seen quite a few jackholes out there nearly hurt themselves, or someone else.  One time this dick is firing off a norinco m-1a, and his target falls over, so he gets up, weapon at port arms, and runs down range to fix it.  There were about 6 other lanes open, with people firing (including myself) when he did it. I called a cease fire. and chewed the guy out when he got back.  The ranger came over and kicked him off.  He said that a month earlier, the same guy was kicked off for accidentally discharging up in the air, (this was after several warnings about keeping his weapon pointed downrange, because he kept pointing it down the firing line, trying to fix malfunctions)

Back in the old days, Spring valley range was unmanaged, and there were some real idiots out there.  I wauld always carry a sidearm downrange with me, and keep one eye on the bench while setting targets.  People did have accidents out there back then.

Does anyone know of a range near dayton where I can do some long range shooting? 300meters+?

I just re-read your post, and realized that you said grand valley, not spring valley! Sorry.
