Title about says it all. Who here is into drag racing? Do you like to watch it? Or do you have your own car that you race?

Here's my baby. She started out as a daily driver 1989 Mustang Gt. I soon felt the power bug and started modding her. With a mild combo she had gone a best of 12.70 @ 113. Not very impressive, but she had her problems. I had enough mph to get her into the 11's but they just kept evading me at the track.

Soon after this pic was taken my flywheel self destructed, and I chose to take her off the road completly and turn her into a drag only car.

After having a 12 point cage installed, Frame ties through the floor, 33 spline, spooled rear-end. I finally got her back.

My chassis is now good enough to be certified to 8 seconds.
The new powertrain combo will be:

Ford 460 stroked to a 514.
Blue thunder heads.
.700 lift cam
C4 trans/transbrake/reverse manual valve body
4000 stall converter

Power adder:
Nos fogger system dual stage

I am shooting for 8's at 150+ mph

Looks sweet.  I have a 89 conv. that I have a stroker 351 that I have slowly been working on. During the late 70s-90 I raced Ford big blocks. At the time I prefered the 427/428 over the 385 series motors. I had a 429SCJ that as I explained on another post I self destructed.  Now I love the stroked small blocks.  Parts are cheap and plentiful.  My friend is running the same 351 in a 67mustang and has ran a best of 10.60 at high altitude Palmdale.  If I ever quit buying firearms(or unable, living in Cali) I will probably finish my 351 and add a supercharger with maybe a 9lb pulley.

I had a BB 55 Chevy that ran low 10's in the 130mph range.It should have been 9's but it just wouldn't hook hard enough.Not to bad for the early 80's and a kid just out of high school.Not a drag car but I'm working on a Cobra replica.Always been my drean car since I drove a real 427.Of course it will be a big block.Can you say MERLIN.I knew you could.

I tried it, but I found I couldn't run very fast in high heels.

I was into street racing in high school. In college now and don't have the time, money, or place to work on her(live in a apartment) any more. Here is a pic. I had the time of my life crusing around on Friday nights in my stang.

Still like to go to the strip though. There's nothing like standing 5 feet away from the burnout box when an open header 429 stang is lighting em up.

Yessir!  BUT, I just sold my race car!  It was a `73 Dodge Challenger, Alston 4 link chassis, 440, auto with a trans brake. Best ET was 10.02 at 134mph. I got laid off from a job in 1992 and the funds weren't there anymore, so it sat. And sat. Now, I'm doing OK with the funds, but the car was in need of a LOT of work to be ready again, so I've decided to start over. Thinking about a later model like a LeBaron or maybe an Avenger for S/G class.
I still have a 1970 Charger R/T street car that I'm restoring, but it won't be a stock restoration. More like a built up restoration. Hoping for high 11's without and high 10's with the bottle.

Kgibson, that is Mason Dixon drag way up in MD, right?  Nice mustang.  My friend has a connection to get a '93 cobra from a friend of his dads. But he would have to sell his '78 Bronco first. [:(] Anyway, what had you done to it when you were running 12.70?  

Yup, thats at Mason Dixon, I race there and Virginia motorsports Park.

My car had mild head/intake work. Exhuast, gears, tremec 3550. And a 6LB Blower.

I know my car was faster then what I had gone at the track because I have beat a 12.2 car on the street.

i had a 71 camaro about 6 years ago paid 600 for it bought a 396 for 500 put the 2 together plus a good cam car went 12.72@108 had 4.56 lincoln locker rear end and it still needed some fine tuning but was fun.not bad for about 1300 bucks total.

This required that I sell my Camaro to gather up some cash for Mom...

It went to a guy in Fairbanks, Alaska believe it or not...

Right now, I'm working on a '69 Chevelle for my youngest brother Jerry...
He lives in Charlotte, NC and works for Robert Yates Racing...
He's the shock specialist for Ricky Rudd's car...

Since he travels so much, he doesn't have time to build his own car, so I offered to do it for him...
I made a website, and posted pictures of it, as I was building it, so he could view the progress from Charlotte, NC...

The fastest my Camaro went, was an 8.46 @ 159.85 MPH on an NOS plate system, thru the mufflers, on DOT tires...
It went a best of 9.54 @ 141 MPH without Nitrous, in street trim...

I havent finished my brothers Chevelle yet, but I took it for a spin around the block today for the first time...
It feels pretty healthy...Should probably go high 11's without NOS, and low 10's on the plate...

Oh man.  Sorry to hear about your dad, Art.  I lost my mom a couple of years ago and the pain never leaves - it just kinda mellows. Take good care of mom!

Well, I used to a long while ago, too old and fat today. Back in the early 1960's I had a gas car and ran C/G and B/G. Moved up to the super stocks in '66 with a Chevy Biscayne factory race car. It had a 427 and all the good race goodies they could get me. Moved from that to front engine dragster using a small block Chevy and had a ball. Then got the chance to drive a F/C and that was all I needed. Went into the funny car ranks and traveled around a lot more. I even went to the Winternationals in Pomona in 1971 and was fortunate enough to experience the Fernando earthquake, haven't been back since. From there I went to the front engine chassis and that was a great move. My partner and I had a Chapparal 40 foot trailer to haul the goodies around with. Chassis was by Don garlits and was a 240 inch top of the line item, body was magnesium and was by Al Bergler. Don cerny did the graphics and the paint scheme and it looked great and handled well. We had the Lenco two speed with reverser in the drive line and the power was a ZL1 all aluminum engine by Chevrolet. Started out on alcohol and injection to get accustomed to the car and moved into nitro as soon as I could. Was going with an 871 blower and Arias hemi heads but the wife at the time wanted a divorce. My partner and I sold everything we had in the operation and went to Mexico and spent it all, there was nothing to get and the wife moved on in disgust. Drag racing was the most fun thing I had ever done in my life, never got to drive over 242 MPH but that was cool. I still love the sound of an engine on nitro and the smell is something that will always be with me. When you drive a fuel car you feel every chamber explosion and it is a thrill just sit in one let alone drive it. Top fuel and funny cars are a handfull to control and then you have to stop the thing. Opening the chute at over 200 MPH is like sitting in a chair and letting someone hit the back of it with a 2x6 as hard as they can. But when you do it all correctly and you come out on top and hear the 50,000 fans cheering, that is a rush for anyone. By the way a lot of machine gunners are old time drag racers.

I've enjoyed the sport mainly as a spectator since I was a kid.  I had to sell my '96 GT a couple of years ago but it sure was fun "hopping" it up.  

It had a K&N filter, bigger throttle body and mass air sensor, MAC cat-back exhaust, Hypertech chip, underdrive pulleys, PRO-5 shifter, etc.  I never had it to the strip but it was pretty quick for a mod motor car.  I plan on getting back into it someday and would like to build a race only car as well as having a nice street machine.

Wow.  Some sweet cars.  At the risk of being made fun of, I drag race also.  I have a project car which will be running 11s once it is done.  that is my 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi.  I just rebuilt the motor and have to fix some oil leaks.  As is, she is good for some 12 second runs.  My other car is my 1996 Eclipse GSX.  the best time for her was a 12.9@104.  Both are daily drivers, and even though they are only 4 cylinders, they go pretty good and I have a lot of fun with them.  Next years plan also include some autoX.  Especially since Englishtown now has a road course!  Next year I also plan to by a V8 powered car.  See what the other side lives like.

Drag Racing is the OTHER hobby that I cant afford anymore.  I have a 67 Mustang Convertible thats pretty nice that I used to do some street racing with.  It ran a best of 12.4 with this motor/trans/rear in my old 67 Coupe.  I would love to post a picture if anyone could tell me how to post a pic....Thanks in advance for the help.   Steven

I think we've already covered this in other threads. Drag Racing is a sad, pathetic waste of time. Grown men getting dressed up, with makeup and ridiculous sequin gowns, then sprinting down the track... stupid. I tried it once, but my tiara came off when I tried to jump the third hurdle, and then I tripped and got a run in my hose. I fell, and after crying my mascara ran down my face and I looked awful. Just hideous.
