Just heard one of the best lines ever:
Listen to what the guy says after they read the letter from the little girl in Maryland. "Wine sucking communist dicksuck" "peace sucks a hairy asshole" |
Another good one:
"Why is the PX at the Army camp?" "Marines don't need a PX: we're about to loot & pillage a country!" "Then why are we going to the PX?" |

I cancled HBO after they nixed the Soprano's and Deadwood, and John from Cinc.....what is this generation kill?
Here toy go, and IBTL |
Between Generation Kill and the upcoming Band of Brothers series, it might be time to renew it. Av. |
Hmmm....intresting.....is this a new BofB's? |
Half the time either IMDB or Google is your best friend IMDB - Generation Kill |
I saw it yesterday. I liked the whole pussy theory. What I did not like is when they showed the view of the Trijicon. They put a red dot of a Aimpoint when it should have been a chevron at least resembling a Trijicon.
Yep. Pacific Theater this time. Av. |
Kewal! |
Nope, that's "The Pacific" which isn't out until 2009. Generation Kill is based on the 2003 invasion of Iraq. |
We were talking about the new Band of Brothers that's coming out. Av. |
Last night's show was alright, but the book was better. The acting seemed a little stiff to me and I couldn't get into it as much as Band of Brothers.
i dont know, i thought i was really close to the book considering how books to pictures usually end up.
i really like it and going to keep them on DVR until the dvd comes out |
Well, I'm only about 20 minutes into it and it doesn't seem like it so far...
No, actually. Then again, I've only seen 1 episode. But most of arfcom didn't find it as BS propaganda. At least from what I've read in other threads. |
Tonights episode was pretty good.
"Tromly still hasn't killed anybody, i'm half way across the world from Tahiti, and Brads out here hunting dragons in a nasty as mop suit that smells like 4 days of sweat, piss and balls." not an exact quite but i was laughing my ass off. |
We civilized the fuck out of these motherfuckers! |
Any idea when in 2009? |
the first showing just ended. |
I thought tonights episode was really good. he sniper shots were cool. Pink Mist!!!
They are doing a good job of story telling and haven't let politics slip in, yet. They are going to play all three episides next Sunday back to back. If you not in yet you can catch up.
Good work so far. |
Well...so far in the first 2 episodes I've picked up on this libtard propaganda that they hammer on repeatedly:
1. US troops are crude and talk about molesting 5th grade girls 2. Our troops can't get the supplies they need to do their mission. Equipment support is inadequate and troops must order what they need and pay for it themselves. 3. Our troops kill children and women 4. Our troop are bloodthirsty and just want to kill people |
Plus: 5. Most of the officers are functional morons or hysterical cowards who are going to get their men killed because of their idiocy. 6. The senior Marines are worred only about keeping their superiors happy and ensuring the grunts are clean shaven...except for the crazy, cowardly captain. 7. Our Marines are obcessed with homos and finding a decent place to take a dump. The first episode made me a bit suspicious, number two sealed it for me. I won't be wasting my time again. Hollyweird libtard CRAP! |
Love the show it reminds me so much of my time in a Army Mech Infantry line company or my time with the scouts. I don' t know about the Marines but this shit is spot on for how infantry and scouts act in the field. The pornography, the idiot officers, or retarded NCOs the constant sex and violence talk all of it is line unit real. If they start planning bank jobs in there off time I am going to lose it. Mech infantry dismounts can never shut up about planning damn bank jobs. Who didn't have a retarded strict CSM or foolish 1st SGT at one time. Hell my platoon leader use to cry when the LTC would yell at him I am talking balling with tears. This one Platoon SGT was a SGT in look only his platoon leader ran everything because the platoon daddy made very bad decisions all the time.
Seriously though, all the talk of being bloodthirsty and really wanting to kill people was from unseasoned troops that'd never seen combat before. Why would it be odd for a young marine/soldier to be cavalier about killing if he's never done it before? In the second ep when they break out the m40 and pop those two guys you can see that Rudy and Pappy(i think it was pappy) weren't overly excited afterwards. |
Honestly, who isn't obcessed with finding a decent place to take a shit? I think when I get snatched by Aliens and they ask me about my people, I'll describe us as "carbon based life forms engaged in the quest for a decent place to take a shit." Gotta go wash my mouth out with soap now. |
Jesus Christ, if you have not read the book then you have no right to call this show "propaganda". Yes all those things really happened get over it, this isnt a goddamn John Wayne movie. |
Seriously. Or enlist and spend time in a Combat Arms Line Unit. Sitting around the Company area you'll hear all that and more in casual conversation. |
I've enjoyed both episodes.
My buddy has told me stories so often about his experiences in Desert Storm as a Marine grunt that I have them memorized. He had a platoon leader during that time that acted EXACTLY like "Captain America". I'm going to make sure he comes over on the 29th when they run the first three episodes back to back so he can get caught up. |
I've liked it so far. I always assumed when there wasn't fighting going on that a war must be like the ultimate hunting/camping trip. Complete with all the trash talking and screw ups.
Other than the over the top racism, I thought it was pretty good.
I thought the language was the best part. |
I watched the first episode, thought it was pretty good.
Its funny to watch how many people still have romanticized visions of warfare in threads like these - and then all the guys who have BTDT show up and say "Nope, we actually DO talk/act like that." |
A pretty close friend of mine was a Cpl in the unit at the time the book was being written. His character had a speaking role in the first episode (have not seen the second). This man has more integrity than most will ever lay claim to, I have trusted him with my life on many occasions during a subsequent deployment to Iraq.
When I showed up I had a copy of the book - the day I met him he asked to see it as he heard it was coming out. Flipped to the Plt photo in the center and pointed himself out to me. I had the rare opportunity to read the book and bounce the script off a guy who had first hand experience. He vetted it nearly 100%. Folks need to get over the concept that Marines are 110% spit and polish poster boys. This is reality inthe field when deployed. Thus far, the series seems to be in line with the book, and the book is reportedly in line with reality according to Cpl ******. Deal with it. |
Exactly. |
I don't think that it means we have romanticized visions of warefare. It has more to do with me not wanting the producers to make the FOCUS of the film about things that paint our troops and military in a negative light. |
Why cant you accept that the way they are being portrayed in the series is the way things really went down. Hell several of the cast members are pulling an Audie Murphey and playing themselves. Obviously you have no taste for the "gallow humor" and satire that is popular among the troops, but that doesnt mean that they dont really talk like that. |
I have mixed emotions about Generation Kill.
The portrayal of the interaction of the Marines at the platoon level is pretty spot on. The story is well told and fast paced. Where it loses me is the effort to portray every single officer and SNCO as an idiot, incompetent or coward. That is just not true, and I think that it is part of an over all effort to portray the military in a negative way. The author sells you a cool, exciting story about young Marines at war, so that you don't notice you've been slipped a fundamentally anti-military, anti-war message. That being said, I am enjoyng the mini-series and will continue to watch. |
I haven't seen it, but I know much of the backroom talk at the PD's and FD's I've visited and worked at has been compared to .MILspeak (line, not brass).
I wouldn't be surprised. |
I am fully aware of what reality is. I simply resent Hollywood for trying to sway opinion about the war in Iraq. Anything Hollywood can do that makes our troops look bad translates into more votes for Obama. |
I'd have to agree, although the portrayal of the Platoon's Lt. seems to be in good light. I have only seen the first episode however. |
If its the truth - and from everything I've seen from the guy who wrote the book, the Marines who served in the unit, and the Marines from the unit who were technical directors for the film, it is the truth - you should have no problem with it. No one should. |
I'm sure plenty of our troops sit around and talk about what a stupid decision it was to invade Iraq. That's a truth as well. Do you want a major HBO mini-series that will be watched by millions, portraying our troops like that, right before a presidential election? I certainly would prefer that kind of stuff was left out. |
