More than 100 pistols and rifles were stolen from a Modesto gun shop Friday night or early Saturday.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is working with the Modesto Police Department in trying to recover the guns.

Burglars used a cutting torch to break into Modesto Guns after disabling the alarm system by cutting phone and electrical lines, police said.

"These guys appear a little more determined than the average burglar," Doug Ridenour of the Modesto Police Department said.

The shop's owner said he is missing between 100 and 113 guns worth $30,000.

The ATF is involved in the investigation because of the large number of guns that were stolen.

So much for the idea that criminals get their guns at gun shows....

criminals WILL get guns if they want them. if youre going to commit murder why not torch your way into a store. gun laws only inhibit law abiding citizens just like locks only keep honest people out. but of course...we all knew that didnt we.

Dang!!!!!!!!

Those criminals violated the "one gun a month law."

But we can fix that by making it "one gun a year."

[rolleyes]

Ummm, DUH!  Why don't they just get the burglars' addresses off of the stack of 113 DROS forms that they surely left on the counter before leaving?

Either that or just be waiting for them when they return 10 days later to pick up all those guns! [%|]

Second Arrest Made In Modesto Gun Thefts
[url]dailynews.yahoo.com/h/kcra/20011218/lo/1011581_1.html[/url]
Police have made a second arrest in connection with the theft of hundreds of guns from a Modesto gun shop.

Police in San Jose Monday announced the arrest of Sergio Lara Torres, 32, and said they found him with two guns stolen from the Modesto shop. Another suspect, also from the Bay Area, was already in custody.

Investigators said a cutting torch was used to break into Modesto Guns on Nov. 19, and that 256 handguns, rifles and shotguns were stolen along with a cache of ammunition.

The remainder of the stolen weapons are still at large.

[sarcasm]Thankfully this happened in California where the strict firearms laws have made these weapons virtually harmless. [/sarcasm]

I thought the law was clear on this

1) Burgle said store
2) mark any guns you intend to steal
3) return after the apropriate waiting period (5 or 10 days depending on state law)
4) re-burgle removing the previously marked guns
