Thompson considers ending run

January 21, 2008

Fred Thompson was weighing the future of his White House bid yesterday after a third-place finish in South Carolina.

Thompson was widely expected to bow out after failing to win the states where he had hoped to perform strongly, Iowa and South Carolina.

The former Tennessee senator returned to his suburban Washington home late Saturday after delivering a speech in South Carolina that sounded as though he was calling it quits. He stopped short of doing so, but some supporters suspected it would only be a matter of time before Thompson withdraws.

Yeah, it was the pulling out of the debate deal thing that sealed the deal for me.  Wonder what he's going to do with the million dollars he just raised a week ago

2008 elections are really looking bleak now

Was he ever in the primary? As I have said before I am supremely disappointed in his performance. I felt like he either didn't have the spirit/health to run an effective campaign or he just sort of thought every one would just fawn over him and give him victory.

I really like him but he showed me nothing as someone wanting the honor of being POTUS.

Oh, yeah, because the "front-runners" are such fantastic candidates

This year pretty much proves my theory that the form of democracy we practice has to be ended.  Nobody has any interest in candidates with principles, or who might actually be able to solve problems.  All that matters is "viability"... we can only put forth candidates who can get millions of drooling morons to vote for them.

We need to end this silly idea that everyone has a "right" to vote, and recognize that voting is an awesome responsibility that can only be allowed to those who have a stake in society and who can demonstrate that they have some idea of whom or what they're voting for.  Land owners, business owners, employed people, military service... if you sit on your ass and collect a welfare check, you have no right to decide how the country is run.

And yes, that system is less than perfect and might be "exploited" to "disenfranchise" some people.  I don't care.  We've seen what happens when every idiot, doper, welfare recipient, and public-school dropout votes according to the last brightly-colored sign they saw.  It's the end of our Republic.

Tennessee's GOP Chairwoman Says Don't Count Thompson Out
Submitted by Reneé LaSalle on January 21, 2008 - 6:54pm. News | Politics
Fred Thompson is noticably absent from the campaign trail this week.

After finishing third in the South Carolina primary over the weekend... Many wonder if he may drop out of the race before Tennessee and Georgia vote.

But Tennessee Republican Party Chairwoman Robin Smith says his Carolina finish still gives Thompson prominence, and he shouldn't be ruled out just yet.

Smith says, "I think people are starting to ask the question, 'Is he a viable candidate?' I think that's the big question, and we'll have to wait for a couple more days I'm sure."

Smith says the deciding factor will likely come down to how much money the Thompson campaign can raise for a last minute push in Florida.

Although if you want to count SS, Medicare, and Medicaid as welfare then all the old folks won't be allowed to vote either and watch in an instant as Republicans stop winning any elections.

Fred announced the end of his campaign when he took so damned long to announce it's beginning.  Doomed from the get-go it was.

His refusal to acknowledge anything, attend early debates, and wait so long to "get in" portrayed a disrespect for the voter and the process.  I was a Fred man, until I witnessed the start of his campaign.  If that's how he'd operate my Country, then there it is.

just a question of time till we join the eu.

the VAST majority of americans, as this prove, want a omnipotent federal government to give them what they can't earn for themselves.

They want to punish those who save and live within their means, steal from those who dare to actually make money, to let the masses have their bread and circuses.

They want the federal government to correct the mistakes that they make at the expense of those who didn't fuck up their lives.

They want american idol.
They want welfare
They want to be bailed out of their shit loans.
they want two new cars, a brand new house, new clothes, spinning rims, health insurance, social security, workers comp, lifetime employment, pensions  and they want someone else to pay for it.
And they will vote for whoever promises it,

We on this board are the miniscule minority.
If you save money and live within your means, you are a sucker who is going to pay for the rest of the population incapable of taking care of themselves.
And just in case you might get mad about it, they are going to make sure you don't have anything more dangerous than a butter knife when they clean out your IRAs and impose the 100% inheretance tax.

Sadly, we have a winner.

What are you getting upset about? I'm sure this is all just a ploy of Fred's to lull the rest of the country into thinking he's down. I'm sure tomorrow he go up to the microphone, glower to the cameras and then switch on the Charisma so that he can come up from behind at the last minute and steamroll all the other candidates. After that he'll jump off the stage and run up and down the Florida panhandle punching hippies!

McBain is probably the least of the bad options, or maybe Huckaboo.  My fear is that Ghouliani leaves putting all the RINO votes behind Mittens Romney, while the rest of the vote splits between Huckaboo and McBain.
