Sort of board related anyway.

I've noticed that whenever one of those "Which Gun Would You Choose For SHTF" topics come up, I've been amazed at the answers sometimes.

It seems to me (and maybe it's just me) that it depends on which board your on as to the answer you'll get. And it always suprises me.

On this board I'd expect to see a ton of pro AR-15 and .223  posts. But instead, alot of times, there is an overabundance of M1A, FAL, .308 posts.

Meanwhile on some other gun boards dedicated to the .308 rifles, when this same question comes  I'll see the exact opposite. Tons of pro AR-15/.223 posts.

Am I the only one who has noticed this?

Maybe I'm wrong. So how about a simple poll, without getting into a big huge debate.

What's your choice, plain and simple.

Mine would be my M4gery.

I dunno!
I must have missed it all while
thinking about Spanish Detroyer Carbines
in .45 ACP and 1911s in 9X23.

Very simple. If in the woods, Armalite M-15.

If in the city, Kahr E9.

We have to pick from the guns we already own, right?

Best weapon for SHTF?  Long bow and a quiver of arrows...

CQB- I'll take my shorty AR, anything long range I've got a Winchester Heavy Varmint in .308 topped by a Leupold Tactical.

Govthug, you have a picture of that Kahr handy?

I think I'll just take a REAL M4 or AK74 from someone who doesn't need it anymore.  [:D]

Anything in 30 caliber(FAL, M1A, Garand). Why? .223 is such a small and light round, and in SHTF scenarios, many times you'll need a bigger round, for the longer ranges and armor and such. .223 is ok, and since that is all I have that will do, but if I had teh money, it would be a FAL. Then again if  I had the money, it would be both [:D]

DSA Carbine in .308 (they have more than one caliber available now...oh, and some really nice wood furniture for the guns, too! [rolleyes])

IF it were really down to one rifle, I'd want the .308 for its versatility.
The DSA FAL is a great choice for ONLY one long gun.
Usable for heavier game and penetration on hard targets.  That extra 20-30% might come in handy.

Just my preference.

What your seeing is AR-15.com people are looking for their new .308 because they have there wants filled with .223.  The .308 people are wanting their new .223 because they have all the .308's they could use.

223 vs 308 in the shtf deal? Do you believe that people are counting on battlefield pickups to keep their supplies up or are they actually wanting the extra penetration? Seems to me that the services have mainly fazed out the 308 in favor of the 223 for the most part, so supplies of 308, unless stockpiled beforehand, ammunition supplies could become a factor in a prolonged skirmish. Your thoughts on this please. Thanks  312Bang

I'm a little hesitant, but O.K. it's the M-14.

What suprises ME about "what gun for SHTF" responses are ones like this:

"Well, I would have my .22 for huntin small game, plus my AR for medium range engagements with 'the enemy', then I would have my M1A to reach out and touch someone, plus my bolt action 30-06 for large game, plus I would carry my 12 guage shotgun for birds and up close combat, plus my 9mm for backup and my .45 for when the 9mm wasn't stopping them"

I wonder how they are going to carry all those guns and ammo.

Simply put, the one with the most ammo at the moment.  At this time that would be one of my AKs.
I'd actually rather grab one of my 10/22s but I don't have ammo on hand except for tracers.

This has always been my thought also.  Why
invest a shitload of money in class 3 weapon
when you can get one for the cost of a round
or two????

Nope you all are wrong.  The best SHTF weapon would be, by far, a rain suit! [:D]

Maybe, it's because "the grass is always greener on the other side."  In other words, those of us w/ a 223 think of all the times a 308 could be useful and vice versa.z
