Well, since you don't have kids then you wouldn't understand. I've got a 3yr old little girl who loves looking through the gun rags with me, and she also likes to sit with me when I browse the site. However, I know not to click on "Babe of the day" or "Nudie pictures inside!" links because she doesn't need to be exposed to that. And my 7 month old boy and I like to spend time together as well.
What's better than starting off their education in firearms young? It's certainly something they won't learn in school. I think the Babe of the Day threads are more about kids you can read and ask "What is porn?" or "What is a babe?" God Bless Texas |

I have a couple of boys, ages 4 and 5, who sometimes come over and sit on my lap when I'm on this site. They point to the AR15 in the upper left corner and say "Dad, you have a gun like that!" [:)] I usually take the cue and get off here to spend some time with them.
But I don't click on [i]those[/i] links when they're sitting with me and I don't appreciate not getting an advance warning. |

I don't look at porn with my wife or kids in the room. But each of my kids learned how to use the internet by sitting on my lap and watching me. I also believe their ability to read is due to the fact they had to learn to read to be on the internet like 'Daddy'. My 10 yr old can navigate Disney.com, TY.com, and AR-15.com like a pro. Yes, their were nights 'I' didn't feel like showing them jack and wanted them out of my way. But that is part of parenting and if you don't feel you can give that extra time don't have kids.

Sounds like my 3 year old as well, If i am on the computer he'll sit there on my lap and watch... point to the top left and say " that your gun?" or point to a pic and say "i like that gun" Advance warnings are definately important.... As well as we spend time reloading, I'll do everything but weigh powder around him... If I am resizing brass I'll let him pull the handle down on the press... he'll say "I helping you" but I remember doing that with my father as far back as I remember.

If you love your children, you will want them around no matter what you are doing.
Everything you expose them to will effect them in some way for the rest of their lives. |

It wasn't so much the BOTD thread. I have no problem with my 9 year old daughter or 6 year old son seeing a pic of a woman in a bikini. They live at the beach in the summer and see them everyday. The problem is that certain people have to constantly push the envelope to see how much they can get away with. That has a tendency to spill over into threads with a perfectly harmless topic. One minute your reading about the best method for breaking in a barrel then you have a pic on the screen that maybe a child shouldn't see. If we let threads go like BOTD it is hard to justify editing a post in a thread about the best bullet for hunting because it had a semi-naked woman in it. Despite SteyAUG's ground rules for the thread and constant editing by mods..people continued to post pics of naked women.
We tried to please everyone but apparently that isn't possible. The bottom line is [b]this is a privately owned web site. The owners can and probably would be held accountable for the material that is posted here. None of us have the right to jeopardize what the Avila family have dedicated so much of their time and money to.[/b] The actions of a few brought us to where we are now. Predictably..members are agreeing with the changes that are being discussed and others are screaming about infringing on their rights,censorship,mods deciding what members can look at,read,etc,etc. It happens every time this placed is attacked by spammers. The bottom line is..we the mods and staff are going to do what GoatBoy and the staff/mods think is best for the site. The fact the Avila's own it and gave us the responsibility of helping run it gives us that right. This is the premier firearms site on the net bar none. It is my intention to help keep it that way. |

You simply cannot comprehend or even fathom what it is like to have a child or the love and desire to guide them until you have one of your own. I know it's an old cliche, but it's true. I don't generally surf the 'net with my little girl on my lap. But we don't hide our computer in a backroom and there are those times when she just wants to come over to see what daddy is doing and snuggle in my lap. I personally wouldn't look at a "Babe of the Day" thread if I was the only one home. But if I did have the desire to, I would certainly use some discretion. There have been past instances where that sort of crap has been injected into otherwise totally innocous and unrelated threads. That sort of behavior I find unaccetable and intolerable. I don't care what happens in properly titled threads, but leave it there. |
