Was at the local gunshop at lunch today and a guy walked in with a rusted out Mossberg and a Winchester 3030 with some minor rust on the outside of the barrel. Bore, barrel and internals as well as wood are in great shape. The dealer had a buttload of these and wasn't interested in putting the time into cleaning it up so he passed.
The guy asked me what I thought it was worth and I told him I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it. Asked if I thought he could get $125 for it and I told him maybe, but I wouldn't pay that personally. He then said I could have it for $100. So I reached into my pocket and pulled it out and gave it to him without a second thought.
Now enter the second thoughts. I don't like lever actions. I don't deer hunt and I have no use for a 3030. On the other hand, with a little TLC I'm sure she could clean up pretty good. She is a centennial commemorative with an engraving or stamping that says 1894-1994.
Anyone have any idea what this might be worth cleaned up? My buddy who was with me at the time said he would give me what I paid for it anytime.
Thanks, little out of my element here.
