It goes to show that the U.S. does not have a monopoly on crazy people. He could've used poison gas etc., and it wouldn't get half of the notoriety in the news media. The news media hates guns because it stands in the way for society to achieve nirvana even if some of us don't want it.

One article I read said he also used a explosive of some type. Also mentioned that he wasn't a terrorist for some reason, just a crazy person.
makes me wonder if anyone in that room was armed at all, other than wacko boy. |

My take is that modern socialist countries, even those as democratic as Switzerland, push people too far. There is constant pressure to conform and to put up with onerous invasions of privacy, not to mention the high rates of taxation. Is it any wonder that people go nuts because of it?
I'm very curious to see what will happen with guns in Swiss homes now. The anti-gunners there have been more vocal that usual in the recent past. |

I'd expect that anti's around the world will use this as evidence to further their agendas. Even though, if you do the math, I bet you're still statistically safer in Switzerland than in a defenseless society like England.

They are given an M-57 assault rifle and 24 rounds of ammunition which they are required to keep at home. Why only 24 rounds of ammo? It has none of the social problems associated with gun crime seen in other industrialised countries like drugs or urban deprivation. Alas, we found out that it's really drugs or urban deprivation that's the problem. |

Where did he get the hand grenade? He probably bought it from the army. People can buy mortars and other fun surplus stuff from the military. Quoted: Why only 24 rounds of ammo? That's their "emergency ammo" that they're not supposed to mess with, so if they're invaded or something it's guaranteed that they've got something on hand while they report to duty. They can, of course, go buy other ammo if they want to get in a bit of practice or something. I'm not exactly sure how it works. |

I for one would like more "emergency ammo". Maybe at least 10 mags full. Thought maybe there was a 24 round household limit. |

They are given an M-57 assault rifle and 24 rounds of ammunition which they are required to keep at home. This is some OLD information. The StG 57 was I think TWO rifles ago. StG 90 is the current issue, and I think there was a StG 77 in between that. StG 57's were still 7.5 Swiss. I think the 5.56mm guns get a good bit more than 24 rounds of ammo, and I am willing to bet that its a missprint even for the StG 57. However whatever rifle you are issued with is yours for life, they dont go back and reissue new guns to the militia, only the Regulars. You want to upgrade you got to pay out of your own pocket. |
