What if over night without warning there was a nationwide ban on the ownership of firearms and a confiscation scheme. These folks honestly think they are being repressed and yes, there are people within their ranks that have a political agenda. Sometimes civil disobedience is the only way to affect change. A little rebellion now and then is a good thing, it keeps the powers that be on the honest side. Would we have the assault weapons ban if there had been wide spread rioting in protest of them? I doubt it, but as usual we take it the back side without so much as a whimper. The damage is already done by the time we get to the polls. |

The riots that happened a few months ago, were supposedly caused because a number of black men were shot by police in something like a two year period. After the riots, it was reported that a majority of the police officers, involved in these shootings, were black themselves.
So is this white cop the only one that faced any charges? And was he charged as appeasement to the black community? |

Rioting is just plain crazy. I've been caught in several riots (Detroit World Series, University of Michigan NCAA Basketball Championship, and Chicago Bulls almost every time they won a championship)and I've seen plenty of whites destroying property out there.
And they should be shot, as well. Not because vandalism carries a death penalty, but because of the danger to the populace at large, and the threat to good order. If I have a beef, I take it up by the soap box and the ballot box. It hasn't gotten to the point that we need the bullet box. I've also taken part in pro-Constitution and pro-self-defense counter-protests, but peaceably. You don't need to destroy someone's life or property to make a point. Semper Fi! Ken Little |

Living close to Cincy, it is rather interesting to hear on the media what they report. It is true, that the very first riot was because of the reports of a white officer shooting a black man who was unarmed. Added to that was the reports of the number of black men that were shot in the past couple of years that made it seem that there was a rather disturbing trend going on in Cincy.
No where, in the main stream media (i.e. television, newspapers), did it give the breakdown of the race of the officers that did the shootings. Neither was there mention about some of the shooting were done because: the suspect was shooting at the police, attacked the police officer, almost killed the police officer that ended shooting the suspect, and the like. Add to that the individuals who always seem to pop up and start chanting that this is a race-related things, the media had a field day, and most likely inflammed things and created news rather than being impartial and report ALL the facts. Additionally, since the majority of people tend to swallow what the major media outlets state as truth, and do not do any form of research on what actually occurs, situations like this occur. Rather sad actually.... |

I live in Cincinnati, and the thing that I haven't seen reported is that many of the people arrested in the first wave of violence were from out of town. The theory is that they hear that things are going to get a little dicy, so they come into town and get to have fun for the weekend and take home some souvineers. I also heard that there were a number of rapes that were not widely reported. I hope things settle down since my wife's route to work goes through an area where they were pulling people out of their cars. I don't really want to have to literaly ride shotgun.
By the way, the city of Cincinnati has a weapons ban much like the PRK and as far as I know there was no grandfather clause. No rifles with removable magazines, no handguns that hold more than 12 rounds. No shotguns with more than 5 rounds. Boy, those laws really helped keep the peace last time! Glad I live in the burbs. Last of all- Don't run away from cops, at night, into dark allys. It ain't a black thing, its a crime thing. |

Folks, a lot of it is just based on people disliking LEO's. It isnt always a black-white thing, I think its an anti-cop thing. People just like to fight the system and unfortunately, the cops are on the front line in regards to dealing with the public.
I cant tell you how many times I put up a post and have been flamed mercilessly. Its come to the point where I try not to reply anymore because I dont want to deal with the few idiots on this board. Not the majority on this board, but a minority that makes themselves heard whenever they get the chance to bash LEO's. |

I work third shift for the Sheriff and I can tell you that last night was nothing... there was no riots last night. It was a small group of jackass punks that think burning a few trash cans is socially notable. All I can say is I work 2300 to 0700 and with the curfew up from 2300 to 0600 I'll have a slow night tonight. |

I'm glad that I was mistaken. From the article, they said that they were burning automobiles.
In Detroit, as I was trying to get away from Tiger Stadium (NOT in a nice neighborhood), they were burning police cars. Anyhow, be safe. I'd hate for one of those guys to take that "By Any Means Necessary" t-shirt with the cop in the crosshairs too seriously. Semper Fi! Ken Little |

The only agenda I've heard from any of them is they don't want to be arrested for drug dealing, mugging and rape. They complain about "profiling" while most of them engage in those activities. These rioters are the lowest class of people - fatherless, illiterate welfare suckers. Sometimes civil disobedience is the only way to affect change. I normally go shooting at my dads house in Blanchester (no laws to worry about) I work days for RCIC (well its 24/7) but have most weekends off except for my drill weekends. I live in the burbs and work in Cincinnati. My wife works in the heart of where the rioting took place. In fact, the first time it happened they were escorted out to their cars by security and other black co-workers.
What kills me is if this was a poor white boy that had been shot, nothing would have ever been said and the officer would have never went to court. |

There's a big differance between exicuting public disobedience in a manner that shows a direct correlation between the one who are pissed and the ones who are pissing them off and public disobediance that shows you can bash, trash, steal, and burn anything in your sight! If some white guy starts burning my stuff 'cause he's pissed about a gun ban, I'm going to kick his ass for burning my stuff regardless of his "cause".

Rioting and looting do not fall under the category of 'civil disobedience'. Many tried to call the rioters in LA after the Rodney King debacle 'protesters', when in truth they were opportunistic hoodlums just looking for a chance to destroy or steal. It's funny how when an officer shoots a white man, it's just another day. When an officer shoots a black or hispanic man, the race-baiters all come out and rally the troops against this 'racist' act, no matter what the circumstances are. It's to the point where many officers think "If God forbid I have to shoot someone, PLEASE let him be white!!!!" What kind of shit is that? This stuff is getting out of hand. The race-baiters on both sides should focus their energies on solving the problems rather than fomenting hate and discontent.

As I have said to many folks before I pray every day that I can finish up my career without having to take the life of a black suspect. I actually find myself in situations where deadly force might be justified but I am looking for cover or a safe retreat so I don't have to take that action. It is not for fear of the suspect but for fear of prison. I have said this before and will say it again. I would feel much more confident as a citizen taking the life of a suspect breaking into my home than I do as a police officer in this day and age having to use deadly force against a minority. It is a damn shame as when I discuss this with other officers we realize we are putting ourselves in danger and may get hurt or worse doing this. But we all have this fear of being crminally charged and to be quite frank I would prefer death to a healthy prison sentence. I am white and when I encounter a white suspect I immediately go into a different mode telling myself that I can defend myself here if necessary. May seem strange to some of you but it is quite true. Well I have ranted long enough. Just trying to make it a few more years to retirement. |

I'm surprised that the locals here in St. Louis didn't riot the other night, when the officers who shot the "unarmed black men" (hopped up on heroin) who were just trying to run them over during a drug bust were cleared by the grand jury.
Instead of giving facts, all the teasers said "2 white officers cleared in shooting of unarmed black men. NAACP upset!" Semper Fi! Ken Little |
