I'm thinking about getting another pistol and I've always wanted an M92 and a Sig, so I'm having a little bit of a problem making up my mind.  I've heard that the M92 is not proofed for +P and +P+ loads; the use of such can ruin the slide?  I've also heard that the Sig's have a rather short service life.  Any comments would be appreciated.

BTW, my only other side arms are an S&W 686 and an HK USP full size .45.

The SIG P226 is going to compare more to a
92F than a SIG 228.

Both the P226 and 92F have 15 round capacity.
The P228 has a 13 round cap.

Both the P226 and 92F passed the military
tests,so I doubt the SIG is any less of a gun
than a Berretta.

The SIG actually won but due to costs, the 92F
got the contract.

Got a P226 and I would'nt bet my life on another
9mm if I had the option of a SIG P226.

If I am biased, the name should have been a give
away.

This is a personally preference thing.  Go to a range and rent of these guns, and and shoot, then pick which on you like.  They both have aluminum frames. I think the availability of mag is about the same.  I have mags at Cheaper than Dirt, Wideners etc.

Oh I forgot to mention that the Sigs have no manual safety but a decocking device to lower the hammer.  The Baretta Walther-style safety that decocks and disables the trigger.  It is has a spring-loaded on dis-engagement.

Oh,yea

Pre-ban factory 13rd mags for a P228 are ALOT
more than 15rd P226 mags.

A example, can't prices vary but I have seen
these prices from a dealer with both.

SIG P226:used $45-50
SIG P228:used $75-95

check mags for sale forum for prices,if any
are for sale right now.

Ive shot both, own the berretta. Wasn't impressed with the Sig to be honest. Berettas a lot more accurate.

As said above, the SIG P226 is more comparable to the Beretta 92. I own all of the guns being talked about. The P226 is my favorite (you always like your first-born best), but I have equal confidence in my Berettas. The P226 fits my hand a little better than the P228 ( I have large hands), but not enough to make much difference. They are all great guns and the final decision just boils down to what turns you on the most. It's just like what flavor of ice cream you like. The P228 mags are definitely much harder to find, especially hi-caps.

I own the Beretta 92FS, Sig P226 & P228 - the P226 is by far my favorite though. Both of my Sigs are more accurate than my beretta (but maybe I just shoot the Sigs better).

Good luck with whichever pistol you choose.
