Up here in the SF Bay Area we're having a fairly large lightening storm right now. In fact, this is one of the better ones I've seen since leaving LA. So, I'm standing out front watching the rain and the show, and my psycho brother goes out front and he's standing in the middle of the steet, in the rain with no shoes on eating pie out of a pie tin.

Should I be worried the guy has a death wish?

There are plenty of more inviting targets for the lightning to hit other than your bro.

Last I checked he had the pie tin in one hand and a cell phone in the other. Should I be worried?

Now he's suggesting we roll out some aluminum foil to use as a slip-n-slide in the rain. His behavior is quite troubling.

I can see the lightning and sometimes the hear thunder, but it is not raining.  the storm must be too far away.  I hope it is a mild winter because I can't afford heat.

I think a more pressing issue than concern that he may be suicidal is the fact that he hasn't the sense to come in out of the rain.

But to more important things.......what kind of pie is it?

Walnut Creek.  Great show.  I saw a transformer blow up through the telephoto lens I had.  Looked like a twinkling star.  Over by downtown Concord, prolly around the BofA building.

Up in the north bay, when the first one hit I thought it was a sonic boom. Power was out in part of town and it's probably related. For a little while I was reminded of the Midwest. I've seen storms so intense I've been tempted to turn off the headlights and drive by lightning.

My APC Smart-UPS 1400 reported 1 surge to 118v and two sags down to 55v and 107v. Now if they would only build them to last longer than 2 years.

I was in class tonite but it was booming the whole time.  I counted about thirty flashes in my twenty minute drive home from Concord.  I work up in Cordelia and we had a bumper and quick downpour around one.  I love lightning storms, we don't get too many big ones up here. Luckily no power outage so far.

Down here in SoCal (Huntington Beach) it's just about perfect. I just got back from taking my friend's boat out for a spin tonight for the game. I love hitting the bars around Newport Harbor and Alamitos Bay by boat.

Paterpk,

I grew up on the East Coast and have seen many real storms there. I also go to Lake Havasu, AZ often and it's just awesome when they have a monsoon go through there.

I love weather!!!    :-)
