Cazador223-
The reason so many Israelis carry M16's is easy - we send them X amount of military aid each year.  They must then spend that money with US companies, buying military supplies.  Hence it is "cheaper" for them to buy an M16 with aid money then buy a Galil with their own money.

The 5.56mm Galil is one heavy MF. If I was limited to 5.56mm, I'd go for the M-16 even if I had to pay for it out of my pocket.

M-16A1s are free(provided by the government) used Galils cost $225.You'll also notice that you see very few M-16s with A2 sights, those are very expensive in Israel.

So when do we start getting M-16s from our government, my guess would be never. Our rights will be further eroded for "our safety". Makes me sick.

Wait a minute, those M-16s have flash hiders and bayonet lugs.  Therefore they must be evil right?

So according the Federal Govt, HCI, and California, we should see Isrealis start going nuts any second now!!!!   .....waiting.....waiting.......

Stupidity really pisses me off.   How do you think Isreali citizens would react of HCI went over there and asked for their guns?

I always wondered the same thing. How long do you think it would take for Israeli citizens to through Chuck Schumer out of the country when he starts spouting off about "gun control"?

Why do some of them have different color "tape" or ribbon around the muzzle area?

Good question.  Here's the answer:

The US *gave* Israel tens of thousands of M-16A1 rifles (among other freebies).

IMI sells their Galils to the Colombians for a profit.

Thus, the US has armed both countries and can deny involvement in arming the Colombians who have documented, long-standing human rights issues.

Another sleight of hand brought to you by "sliding scale" morality.

The US is a terrorist state by its own definition--we've aided and abetted terrorists at every turn.

Texason - I was told by a Jewish friend who lived there for many years, that it is to show Ownership, either Gov't or Private.  In a country where 75% of the population is armed, its kinda like a name tape on your lunch pail. Not required, but done so you can tell which is yours.  Some people use colored ribbons, others use tape with Name/address on it.

more Isreali AR toters, still no orlite mags. Can someone show me *just one* picture of one of them actually using an orlite mag? I saw one in some terrorist place they raided in some other pics but it was the terrorists' mag.

You know that is strange...
I dont see any reason for it, the orlites we get here work perfectly well in my experience.

I've had no problems with Orlite magazines.  However, you must cull out the damaged surplus Orlites from those that are still serviceable.  The Orlites that have seen the end of their service life have cracked feed lips.

I think the reason that the Israeli's placed them on the surplus market is because they received U.S.G.I. mags for free and wanted to turn their pre-ban Orlite magazine stocks into cash to be applied toward other  more important defense items.

Glock mags are plastic and they suffer from no detriments attributed by hearsay to the same type of plastic Orlite mags.

By the way, now that Orlite is no longer making magazines, they are making high tech thermoplastic sawhorses that are sold at Home Depot.

Isn't it about time Bush came out with an Executive Order in Favor of the Right to Keep and Bear arms and pass a National CCW?

I am having a dispute with someone about the Israeli Defense Ministry allegedly providing M16s to citizens.

Can anyone steer me to a website etc. to verify this, or is it just urban legend?

Thanks,
Madkiwi

Frank, you can't have it because there's a 0.0001% chance that you may use it to attack a school house. We cannot take the chance. It's for the children.

Actually, I think it's smaller than that.  I don't recall an M16 ever being used for an attack against a school house or any other civilian facility.  That would make it a 0.00% chance.  What's their reason for banning full-auto again?  [rolleyes]

Correction:  actually, technically, it's not banned.  It's just so bloody expensive that it might as well be!
