AOL isn't an Internet Service Provider, they are a dedicated intranet with a side-door proxy connection out to the Internet....but I won't get started on AOL as a whole. Bottom line, if you're happy with it...great. Though you may save a little money with better options elsewhere...at least after you get out from under your rebate/AOL contract agreement.
About 8-9 years ago, there was a very small dedicated group of 2nd Amendment folks on AOL. After much pleading, AOL granted us our own "spot" where we could discuss such things. It also required quite an effort on our part as AOL moved the area around from time to time, so we'd email each other to find it again. But there was no shortcut to this spot, it was out of the way and if you didn't know exactly where it was, chances are, you wouldn't find it.
On top of that, unlike other areas with other topics, the "gun group" area was regularly monitored. If you mentioned anything about a price of a firearm, your message was likely deleted as AOL had a strict "no gun sales" policy. (we later found that the ACLU area had "no rules" where people could cuss and such...so we would go over there and talk about selling guns much to AOL's dismay the moderator later told us).
There were many patriots there, Old Town Station (who I believe is Jim Supica who recently ran for a board chair of the NRA and didn't get it..if he runs again, he's a good guy), Plus P...strong willed, but full of common sense, and many others. They've moved on, but AOL retains their anti-gun stance.
