If you could design or have a rifle/assault rifle which would it be, what features would it have to have in the design? what caliber would it have to be in?

This will have to be one of mine and this exact config.

Isn't that that HK G11K or something like that, which shoots that funky new caseless round?

I like the idea of a powerful 6 to 6.5 mm round.  But make it a powerful heavy round (nothing like that 5.56mm thing).  If any of you have ever seen the original 6mm SAW round, then you know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, take the new round, put it an AR-10 or G-36 style weapon and you will be ready to rock and roll.

SouthernShark has the right idea, I've read countless articles saying that the "ideal" combat round is 6mm. I think it runs in the nighborhood of a .243. It can be used for light sniping and it really shines at 300+ yards. Plus it tumbles in flesh like the AK74 rounds. Now, mate this to a Sig551 system and you got gold.

Did I mention I like the Sig551?

I'd really like a select-fire 10/22 with intigral suppressor.
Or when I'm really dreaming I always wish for this gun...
Volmer converted HK-M51B.  It has everything that I like in guns ALL in one package.

Over at The FALfiles http://www.l1a1.com/cgi-bin/forums/ultimatebb.cgi there are a few threads on building up an FAL using the new Williams lightweight upper and lower receivers.    Total build weights have been under seven pounds.    The idea of a lightweight FAL is very appealing to me and I am watching with interest.   If these projects work out and the durability is there, I just found my new lust.

I'd like a folding stock AR carbine in standard.223 or possibly 6mm.All the talk here has got me thinking about the 6mm round. No gas system crud. Just good old springs and blowback/locking breech design to handle all that and an A3 type upper to switch optic platforms as needed. Kind of like a ZM but a slightly different design. Still looks like an AR, but the upper would have to be completely different. Oh well. I need to get a preban before I can even entertain these thoughts.

Well since I live in the PRK I have been thinking lately about Ar's without a magwell I have come up with an idea that we'll never see but here it is....

An AR-15 with an integral magazine chambered in either .220 Swift(preferably) or 22-250 with a 24" match barrel, a Badger Arms free Float handguard, Hogue pistol grip and a  Harris bipod utilizing the Sig-Sauer straight pullback "bolt" action. It would make a fun varminter and match rifle. In heavier calibers it would an outstanding hunting rifle.[:D]
