Oil company execs are entitled to hundreds of millions of dollars in pensions, and if that means that you have to pay higher prices at the pump then so be it. You're forgetting the effect of interest. Even put into a conservative investment earning 5%, $400,000,000 will earn something like $55,000 a day. At $200/bj, he could get 270 blow jobs a day just on the interest.

I'd have to say as part of good corporate governance, the $400 million should be passed along to the shareholder's, as it's "their" company. The fact of the matter is most boards of directors are giving themselves such perks as well. They are in fact stealing the shareholder's equity. I don't care how much the company has grown, that was what his salary was paying for. The retirement package is theft.

Those that argue that this is the free market, why haven't the shareholders been given a vote on the package? They'd turn it down in a heart beat.
