...I've been working on a new Vietnam memorial in San Diego located on the Coronado Amphibious base. We were expecting a low key VIP visit today, as word of this memorial has now made it back to Washington. Instead we had 3 show up, and there was an entourage of photographer's, journalist's, and assorted aides. Got to rub elbows with CINCLANTFLT, the number two admiral in the Navy - gee those 4 stars looked like a lot of weight to carry. Also got to meet COMNAVSPECWARCOM, the top dog SEAL, a Rear Admiral. Then someone say's "hey, isn't that Rudy over there". Sure enough, it was Rudy from the first Survivor series, and I think the producer of the show was there too. Then CINCLANTFLT pinned a Small Boat Unit insignia on a 1st class PO, as he announced this to be the first issue of this new insignia. The guy was nervous as hell with all that brass around but the admiral made him feel at ease. Even offered to give him a ride back to the East coast with him. There were more SEALs tagging along, as they are in town for a reunion. Bout an hour later we were ducking for cover to the sound of tat tat tat........tat tat tat........ brrrrrrraaaaaappp. Either the admirals or the SEALs were across the highway on the beach trying out full auto and tri fire. On the boat we're working on we've got a 20mm Twin Anti-Aircraft Gun on the bow, 2 more single 20mm's, and a 40 mm Mark-19 Honeywell Grenade Launcher, so don't you guys bite off more than you can chew over there!
