I was thinking up picking up a pair of Oakleys, but they are a little spendy. What do you guys use, something that looks a little slick, I don't want to look like a grandma or something. Now I realize that EVERYBODY is going to post asking me what my eyes are worth to me, Here is the answer. 50 dollars or less. ETA: And no I won't sell them to you at that price. |
I do not wear special eye protection, just my glasses, and sometimes not even those.
I use my Oakley sunglasses outside. I have a bunch of clear cheapos I use at indoor ranges.
I just use my Oakley eye-glasses. If it's waaaaaaaay bright outside I may sacrifice being able to see things far away and throw on my M-Frames.
+1 on the Wiley X's |
So, why do you have them, istead of leaving them for the other troops? - No Flame - Just wondering. |
Just some cheapo S&W plastic glasses I picked up at Wal Mart. I was at a gun store on Friday looking for a new pair, and I found some with yellow lenses and dark UV lenses made with high-impact acrylic for $20.
Why spend a lot? You can get a nice pair of glasses that offer good protection for $50 or less. Also, I used my Oakley wire frames and took an ejected casing from a guy just down the line, and I had a nice scratch on my $180 glasses as a result. Not worth it. |
If one pair is looking for a new home, I could IM you my address |
+1 on the S&W's. I get them free from work. I like the yellow lenses when I'm in the woods.
I also have a couple of pairs of Wiley's. They are dark tinted -w- rubber seal. I use them mostly when riding my motorcycle. |

These things are dirt cheap, fit great and have very good optical qualities. Don't let the pic fool you.

I do a lot of RO work and it doesn't take long for my eye pro to get scratched to hell from a facefull of brass. The strap thingy is also great. It fits under my ear pro much better so the ear cups seal better and you don't get dents or headaches from eyegless temples being smashed into your head or behind your ears all day. aa |
Any of them in good shape? IM if interested in selling. |
I like the Remingtons I buy from Wal-Mart. They have replaceable lenses so I can go from mirror, to grey, yellow, & clear.
Under $20 and they don't look dorky. |
Had some Wiley Xs, but didn't like the optical clarity on them. It was pretty bad, IMHO.
I traded up for some Oakley Half-Jackets. |
+1 |
I dont wear anything. I say eithers Spy or Oakley if your gonna buy some nice ones, but they just might get all messed up so that might be out.
I usually just ware my regular sunglasses that I bought for less than $50.
Where do you get the Wiley X things? |
I never used anything in the Army, and got used to that. Probably not smart.
Radians Illusions. $4.50 ea. online They are reasonably sharp looking and are optically excellent. There is very little scattering from the lens even with direct illumination.
If you want to buy them by the case you can get a dozen for under $30 |
i just wear regular sunglasses. i'll probably end up regretting it later, but i'm young and invincible at the momment
We prolly bought the same ones. Eventually, I'll get a pair of wiley x's. |
What's the consenus on M-Frane hybrids?
I figure $145 for a set of permillon and clear lenses isn't terrible... I like my minutes when IO need shade, but they don't have interchangable lenses andnot quite as much eye coverage. I have a pair of ESS glasses, but I'm going to sell them as they don't fit me very well and were kind of an impulse purchase. |
My Oakleys. Polarized Juliets for outdoor ranges (they're my EDC sunglasses), and M-Frames for indoor ranges (as well as my lab work).
If you can't find anything here, you need some uh,..glasses.
I get 5-6 pairs a year from them because they don't have the cool ones at work. www.safetyglasses.com/ |
I just wear industrial safety glasses, clear lenses. Not trying to look cool.
If they get scratched or forgotten, I just get another pair. I did use amber B&L shooting glasses when I shot Trap at night. They seemed to help pick out the targets better. |
That's what I thought until I bought a pair. Now I could kick myself for not buying them sooner.
How 'bout I give you 40 bucks for one of em? |
I must agree. I have yet to try on a pair of Wileys that is as clear or as comfortable as my M frames. |
I use Oakley M Frames with yellow, clear and red irridium lenses.
I have Wiley's and Half jackets. Half Jackets get the nod every time.

I have to say that I am really impressed with many of you. Most everyone knows the brand name of everything they own. I never know what I have until threads like this come up and I go check.
Thanks to G.D., I know I have Rothco EMS pants, Bates boots, and no name, made in the USA, safety goggles. |
Because my team, and the team that replaced us had more than enough. I don't think anyone wants my partly used, partly scratched glasses. |
I have Wileys, I got fromLone WOlf Distributors for thirty bucks plus shipping.
Oakley Shooting Array....M Frames that come with three different tinted lenses in an Oakley zippered case.
Where can one get those? and what style lenses are they? <edited> Wow I found some, but they were $245 (MSRP). Why is it so much? I can get them with grey lenses for $105, with replacement lenses being$40 a piece. That means I can get the glasses with 3 sets of lenses for $185. (This from REI) |
Same here. Except if I'm awake, I'm wearing my glasses. I don't like not being able to see clearly. Contacts and lenses for my glasses are too expensive due to my astigmatism so buying a pair of non script sunglasses or glasses is out of the question. |
Hell, I payed $130(?) maybe even less for mine back in 2002. LEO/Military Pricing |
Oakley M frames. I have two pair- one clear, the other smoked for sunny days.
Pricey, but what's an eye worth? |
I dont wear glasses. I shut my eyes just before I pull the trigger.
I picked up most of my lenses on e-bay. The yellow are hard to find because they don't make them anymore. |
