I don't like them. They are just too weird. I'm not sure who their target audience is? How many new cars do 17 year olds buy?
Was funny seeing the comercials yesterday while watching Bad Boys II. The "German" in the comercials is the same guy playing the "Russian" in Bad Boys II
At least I am pretty sure it is him. www.imdb.com/name/nm0001780/ |
Lol these are pretty good, I like the new Fedex ads better though. The guy in white is a good actor, he plays some creepy roles, he was Lucifer in Constantine
That's the whole appeal.........The whole German wierdness is the sell of those commercials. That and the best line ever: Time.....to umpeemp ze outo!!! And the sick, demented joy on his face when he says it...... It is absolutely brilliant. |
I love those commercials... Probably my second favorite funny campaign in the last couple of years since the "Real Men of Genius" spots first came out.
"Shay vat if you vant to pimp your ride..." Awesome. Edit: Oh yeah, and the one with "THE LAME" is making me snicker even though I haven't seen it in a few days... perfect. |
These commercial are awesome. How could you not love unpimping?
And this guy is the foreign guy in EVERYTHING imdb.com/name/nm0001780/ OH SNAP |
American "urban" culture + German engineering + VW's + English with a heavy German accent =
Not as good and the "unpeemp ze auto" commercials, but pretty friggin cool none the less.
If you're a Gene Kelly fan. Singin in the rain BC |
Yeah... it's him. Click on "other works" at the bottom.
I prefer him as Karl Hungus in Log Jammin'. I think these comercials are a waste of his talent. - Satan in Constantine - the weird surgeon in Minority Report - the guy stuffing Steve Buscemi in the wood chipper in Fargo |

lol....way more entertaining than a ford commercial! that VW is wierd looking though, but i don't like any car in white.....i wanna golf! (indigo blue)
Yeah, Peter Stormare...great, creepy actor! He was also in 8mm, playing the porno director Dino Velvet... |
Target audience? Anyone that has been sitting at a light with ghetto pimped ride blasting out rap at 500Hz or lower. The target audience would LOVE to "un-pimp" some rides out there. So maybe buying a VW will piss off the pimp ride owners? Why not? Better a chance of that than a hot babe clawing you because you wear "AXE" Excellent commercial. |
LOL my favorite one! VW has a hit with these commecials. |
Yeah, I think they are funny as shit. I love to see them stupid tricked out rice burners getting pown3d!
And the chicky is hot too..... |
Looks like a friggin UPS truck.... |
We call it......well I call it the Short Bus. Thanks for the links to the cool VW commercials. |
Love the new commercials. Hopefully when they bring the new Golf TDI to the States, they can do a similar commercial with other less efficient vehicles. Probably won't be as funny though, this Unpimping thing is gonna be hard to beat!
The first time I saw one, I said paint it brown and put a diesel in it. |

I was thinking about that this morning on the way to work when I saw a Hyundai with a Tailpipe that looks like a Grapefruit Launcher. |

In honor of ze new ARFCOM godz......Representing Deutchland!! |
Who else has seen the killer scarcrow commercial for Coca-cola's new energy drink- I think it's called V or something.
"HIPPIES" |
He's the same actor who played the head villain in The Big Lebowski. I keep expecting him to say, "I'll cut off your johnson!" |
A clue |
great marketing. now they have everyone talking about these ads.
kinda like the paris hilton burger ad. i'd be willing to bet their sales saw a jump as a result of the controversy |
broader than teens, anyone who likes a small, efficient car that actually has some class and quality and who never wants to be lumped in w/ the flying saucer/fartcan import tuner crowd of course, I'm biased, I own a VW and it's awesome, 31mpg and ~220hp....not a world beater but very quick and rock solid in the corners |
I'm with you on this one. These are great. So much better than that "Ride it like a Ford" crap. |
"ride it like a Ford"?? Haven't seen those yet.... |
Yup, the influence of American-Negro culture knows no boarders.
Rather like HIV or the plague... |
I remember talking to some friends about their luxury V8 powered sedan, Phaeton, which starts at $66,000. I guess eventually all makers of inexpensive cars get ambitious and want to compete with the big boys. In the case of VW, if Phaeton cost $70,000 out the door, wouldn't it cease to be a "Volks" wagon, since it now not something everyday "volks" can buy?
I love these commercials. I just wish they were in a format that could be played by Windows Media Player or Realplayer.
+1 I haven't seen this one yet. |
Yes I am actually. Did you take the test in the "are you racist?" thread? I scored an 84... |
This might be a dupe, but check out the Phaeton assembly facility: forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1837641 |
Do you think this is being taken as good natured kidding of the hip hop culture?...or is it more serious, a cultural backlash.....or neither. |
Germans dressed in white, selling a white car, and unpimping a white kid's car?
I would say the target audience is white kids. |
for the most part it's white kids and asian kids pimping cars to begin with.... but it's not targeted to the white kids that pimp cars, because they'd never consider a non-pimped car acceptable for various reasons. |
