Recently I really got to know my neighbors, and this place KICKS ASS!  The guy across from me answers the door with a pistol behind his back and wants an AR (he's Jewish, and his family is pro-gun also), and the one upstairs has a nice AK among other goodies.  It would be a very BAD idea to break in or attack someone around here.  Both are nice guys and really broke some of my misconceptions and stereotypes.  There should be more praise for the residents of CA that resist the idiotic restrictions placed on them.  We are the ones standing up, not running away.

/rant/
The Right to Keep and Bear Arms will not be maintained by those that flee whenever conflict rears its head.  To those that leave CA because of the laws: what would you do if it actually came time to use your arms in defense of liberty?  You have already made your decision to run from conflict, and have hardened your character as a coward.

Where do ya live in old Cali? I currently live in the 13th safest city w/ more than 100,000 people in the US of A. The neigboring city currently holds the position for 2nd. Not bad for So Cal, if I say so myself. Most of the nice places, though, are in Northern California or in the mountain communities.

I live in Laguna Niguel and I'm pretty amazed at some of the hardware that some of my neighbors have.
An older guy two houses up has a very nice collection of single action Colt .45's Peacemakers and he has a large collection of the German Luger. I was very impressed with his collection and then I jokingly asked what he used for home defense. He told me to stay in the viewing room and went to get what I thought were some more drinks. He returned with an HK MP5 submachine gun, an HK handgun which fired the .45acp, and a shotgun. He also told me that there were various other HK's hidden around the house. Definitely do not want to mess with this guy.
There are a bunch of others who own guns but none of them have the collection or knowledge that this guy did.

hes got the yotes coming into his backyard trying to lure his dog away, he wants to take them OUT, without alerting the neighbors.

and there a LOT more pro-2ndAmend people in LA county than you know about, its just not safe to talk about for fear of being robbed (ive NEVER talked about my gun views to my coworkers in the past 3 jobs ive had)

Was shooting the shit with some of my neighbors, mostly retiries in their fifties and sixties, and start talking about guns.  Find that they all have relatively well sized collections and are all very pro gun.  One of my neighbors is a cop and even lets me shoot his MP5. [:D]  And this is in the liberal hell of the bay area.

There are a lot of closet gun owners out there who are afraid of alienating people by talking about guns.  I don't hide my gun ownership and try to educate people about guns.  It is amazing how many people think my AR is full auto.  People don't know the truth till we tell them.  I try to be a good ambassador for the sport.  As far as theft, I have a very heavy safe and retired, armed neighbors just itching to shoot at something. Well, I'm not sure just how offended to be by this since I didn't grow up in California, but just outside Philadelphia. I married a California girl while I was in the Marines, then we bought a house there when I EAS'd. From the start, I thought Californians were a different breed. The place was overpopulated, overtaxed, overregulated and overpriced. The fact that self-defense was not an acceptable justification for a concealed handgun license astounded me. The fact that the comptroller of Orange County ripped off my money and then got next to no punishment because he was old made me sick.

9% state income tax
3.5% property tax
vehicle registration tax as a percentage of the value of the vehicle
8.5% sales tax, including on clothes
$4.00 for a gallon of milk
$1.90 for a gallon of gas
the 91 freeway
Gray Davis
Dianne Feinstein
Barbara Boxer
Loretta Sanchez
Antonio Villaraigosa

The beaches and the climate weren't worth it to me, so when my company made me an offer to come into the Dallas headquarters, I jumped at it. And my wife was just as happy to sell our 1950 sqft, zero lot line house and move into a brand new, custom built house with every option nearly twice as large on a quarter acre lot, and make $25K in the bargain, We were outta there.

I didn't leave specifically over the anti-gun laws and attitudes there, so maybe you'll say that your "coward" remark doesn't apply to me. Fine, if that's the case, then no hard feelings. But while I was there, I voted in every election, always for the pro-rights candidate, or the closest thing available, and was nearly always disappointed. Sheriff Carona in Orange County ran on a promise to start issuing CHLs, but I didn't see any liberalization of the policies for the year I lived there after he was elected. Has it happened since?

I miss In-N-Out Burger, Del Taco, The Longboarder in HB, Felix's Cuban Cafe on the Circle in Orange, Prado Olympic Shooting Park and some great friends, but that's about it. Texas is my kind of place, and I'm home.

IMO, California is one of those rare states whereas you either completely hate it or you love it.
Some of my family and friends are from Michigan. They can't stand the fast paced life style and I can't stand the small town snail's pace life. My nieces and nephews love California. After a visit from my youngest niece to Southern California, she packed up and moved to San Diego.
It seems when I travel that when I have conversations with whomever I meet, they are genuinely amazed that I'm from California. They ask all sorts of questions and if what they see on TV is what California is really like. To some of them, California is some sort of surreal fantasy land.
I love my state. I can't even imagine living in any other state. We have the best looking women. Year around summer weather. Miles of beaches. Opportunities are everywhere if you're willing to work. And they can't take your guns if they don't know you have them.[;)]

Hollywood. In a small nice neighborhood. Most of the dwellings around here are duplexes or quadraplexes, then single family houses. Don't have to go very far to get into seamy neighborhoods but I work in "The Industry" (movies, TV, entertainment) and this place is very centralized for work. I can recognize my neighbors but am only on a first name basis with those in my building. I don't know who else has firearms and I don't let it be known I have them.

Being a native Californian coming to TX I thought the same way about TX and still do. TX have a culture of their own and are a different breed. Not bad, but not good in my case either. Taking me longer to adapt.

Yes Sherriff Corona has increased the issuance of CCW. You still have to justify the need, but the justifiction has gotten laxed.

I know what you mean about TX, lordtrader. But I found Texans to be very open and friendly when I got here. Strangers would ask how I was doing, and from the pause afterwards and the look on their faces, they really wanted to know! Rarely, if ever, do you see a driver stranded alone on the side of the road next to his or her car. Almost always you'll see another driver stopped and offering assistance.

My wife, a first generation American of Mexican descent, has told me that she notices that the Hispanic aspect of Texas' culture is embraced a lot more than it is in California.

That's not what he said when he was running. It sounds to me like he was telling the Republicans in OC one thing to get the job, but now he's keeping his buddies in Sacramento happy by doing something else. Like I said, I didn't hear about any new policy for a year after the election while I still lived in Anaheim Hills, just a lot of talk about a new program once he had studied the situation. Sounds like quibbling to me.

Big Bear, you are correct. CA is not a shall issue state. So Corona is really pissing off some people in Sacto rather than making friends. What he has issued in CA maybe inconsequential compared to other states, however remember CA is not shall issue state. The CRPA and the NRA is really behind this guy. I recall an interview with him on some cable access channel and was asked how he felt about SB23 and he declined to answer it. To me that was a way to tactfully say, I think its sucks. Sheriffs are part politicans.

I've met quite a few people who still believe in the 2nd.

Funny thing i've been doing is wearing my AR15.com quite a bit. To work, to places I frequent.

I've even had a few good conversations because of it.

I think there is a growing number of people who are angered by whats going on,but not angry enough to do much about it.

Thats whats sad about it but yet there have been people i've talked to who refuse to be disarmed but don't make the effort to do something about the problem.

Some people could AT LEAST vote for candidates who won't take their rights away....

A play upon Apple's slogan would be,
