It's dooms day, the bombs have dropped and you find yourself on your own. Roving bands of crazed vandals are everywhere. They want your food, they want your water and most of all, they want your life.
You have one gun with an abundant, yet finite amount of ammo.....................which gun would you chose? I'd choose a Colt XM-177E2. It's small & light. Shoots a decent caliber. Accurate. Select-fire. Good for crazed vandals and zombies! |
If I could have one gun from my collection....HK91.
If I could choose any gun.......HK21E Beltfed. |
...............I said a finite amount of ammo! finite = limited |
From everything I have read about them I would take the HK91
Nothing lets you reach out and touch someone like .308 |
Hand held magnetic pulse weapon able to "fire" projectiles of different sizes as long as the projectile was magnetic!!!
This is not science fiction... a truck mounted version is now made!!! (or so i'm told) |
Except 30-06 Having trained with both the HK and garand, personally, I'd take the garand. |
Is that the new SIG 556 ? |
I thought about that, but the 20 rounds versus 8 made the difference for me. Garand would have been 2nd choice. M14 actually if I had one |
Yeah - I think the M14 trumps both. Part of my preference for the garand over the G3 is that the ergonomics of the G3 just don't fit me that well, whereas the garand fits me like a glove. I can totally understand why some might prefer the HK over the garand, it's just not my choice. |

M1 Garand w/ attached bayonet
cleaning kit in buttstock Leatherman tool on belt basic load of ammo on board 2 canteens of H2O enough iron rations for 3-5 days compass 7x50 binos Buck knife folder fishing line and hooks w/sinkers and bobber or dry flies liteweight pack w/ essentials for fire, spare sox and shelter move on foot, on horseback or by 4x4 |
The reactionary in me says Garand, followed by M1 carbine with folding stock. (both of which are possible in 5 minutes)
The modernist in me says M14. (which I ain't got) The realist says AR. I doubt I'ld need the reach out and touch them capability of the .308 or 30-06. |

A bolt action Model 70 Winchester in .30-06 with a bull barrel and a Unertl 10X scope, in an aluminum bedded synthetic varmint stock.
This is so I don't have to worry about parts breakages, I will value and conserve my ammunition as well as pick my fights. The scope is tough as nails, tracks perfectly, etc. .30-06 can be found anywhere, and is powerful enough for 1,100 yard shots. The stock would resist weather from changing my point of impact, and I would be able to remove/install the barreled action without loss of zero. |

Blackjack272 is really thinking it through! But what happens if 10 bad guys get within 10' of you? That's why I'd want the F/A option! |
I've considered this too. In such a doosday scenario, you could hardly fend for yourself. Travel in packs. Have a friend with you to help each other. Arm him with an M-14. |

HEY, that's TWO. Personally, I would take my AR10A2. |
i want K's with beams
serious i think a M1 garand would suit my needs |
Id want something I could hit somebody with when I ran out of ammo or the situation got desperate. Also, reliablity, ease of use, and availability of ammo are major factors. Basically, an AK 47 or M 14.
(If things really got bad, then my trusty ol' SKS. This thing has taken a beating and doesnt drop a step. And I dont have to be making headshots or anything fancy like that either. Plus, the thing has about 4 parts. Cant go wrong.) |
Since DK is taking his Garand I'll borrow his Midlength with the ELCAN.
My .223 Caliber Saiga.
Its a Sport AK. Nothing Stops it. I would do some mods. I want to do a pistol grip conversion we shall see how that ends up. .223 cheap ammo & lightweight. Can Kill Anything with it. Well. most anything. |
That's definitely my other choice - but if I'm in a garand mood, you are most welcome to stop by my house for the other one when the zombies are swarming! |
I'll bring a copy of Saving Private Ryan... that's sure to put you in a Garand mood. |
