Great show today Jim! Those Barrets were a very nice surprise. It looked liked the recoil from the .50 almost blew your glasses off. So how did they shoot? Many of us have fired the tripod mounted M2's in the service, but it is not the same as shouldering a .50 cal weapon. I hope that they let you borrow the Barret for some long range fun. Like the saying goes...Long distance, it's the next best thing to being there.

It's you.  The show times have been stable for 6 weeks now.  Unusual for TNN, but true.

Rob was shooing PMC factory 38 super.  I was shooting PMC 45 ACP.  Rob is actually better with his limited gun in 45, but I had him shoot his Bianchi/Steel gun so the New Yorkers would believe he is teaching "competition shooting", not self-defense.  (That Space Gun look) And it's a fair guess those New Yorkers don't know what "IDPA" means either.

Couple of lessons out, Rob will pull out his limited gun, identical to the stainless Springfield I'm shooting in all this except blued.  Then you'll see 2" double taps at full speed with no compensators or any other help.

He really is better than anyone who has ever breathed gunsmoke.

But the Model 99 bolt action single shot Barrett bites much worse than it looks!  Just about took my shoulder off.

Shot McMillan's bolt gun a couple of years ago and my conclusion is that the McMillan compensator is MUCH more effective than Barrett's comp.

I owed that to the 50 caliber shooters.

Here's the story:  

About 2.5 years ago I got in a McMillan Boomer in .50 that we had on gun tech.  
This was about 6 months before the folks in Congress started stirring up the .50 controversy.  
But there was no controversy then so we said, "what can we do with this thing?"  
And since I had occasionally said some smart aleck line in reference to big caliber guns like:
"Or in case you need to shoot a hole in an engine block."  
We said, "hey, this thing will actually do that!"

So we dragged an old small block from the Horsepower Show down to the range...
and got a nice tight shot (video) and blew a couple of holes through the cylinders.  
Then we lined up 6 cinder (bricko) blocks in a line...
and blew them all down and into powder with another shot.

Great TV!  Very entertaining!  
And we were talking about how the Seals use the McMillan action for their teams. (seen Navy Seals movie?)
So it all seemed to be appropriate... until...

Congress starts up... CBS News runs an investigative piece on shooting through limo armor...
AND TNN re-runs the show right in the middle of the "let's ban 'em" outcry.  

Needless to say, the .50 Cal Shooters were really pissed, and not much interested that we'd done the piece
before anyone suspected they would become the next gun ban focus.

So I owed 'em a rational explanation of their sport this time around.

PS:  All the Gun Techs for this season are now "in the can" and, if I tell you what's in 'em...
I'll have to choose one of the black rifles we're going to be showing and use it on you.

It's not you.  When there is a large image entered into a thread,
the word-wrap feature indexes on the right side of the image.

If that large pic of the CAV-15 was smaller, the lines would wrap properly.

I'm sorry I had to miss most of this week's show, but I had to
run for the little Marine's room about halfway through...
I did catch the Munden's shots at the end.

Keep up the good work, Jim.  If POP! ever gets its head from
out of its collective posterior, it'll be because of level-headed
