This guy was my g/f's cousin.  She's pretty busted up.   What a mess.

Geez... I am sorry to hear.

You have to wonder with his job as a reporter in DC, and it being a really quiet neighborhood if there wasn't something 'fishy' about this attack. I wonder if he dug up some hot info on someone.

What a sad thing to hear.  Prayers sent.  May she and all of her family be well, happy, and at peace.

The guy was an editor. He wasn't digging up anything.

But a murder in that neighborhood is highly unusual.

Having your gaurd up means nothing if you are unarmed.

- Simply being armed isn't  the answer.  You can go armed to the teeth and without the proper mindset and situational awareness it doesn't mean jack.

Yes...BUT, if you are an enterprising young thug, would YOU ply your trade in Southeast?  There's nothing left over there to steal.  Hunting is MUCH better in this "quiet neighborhood".

Sad...

One of these days, the geniuses of DC are going to wake up and smell the coffee.  Like most of the rest of the country, maybe they will finally let honest, law abiding citizens to own and carry firearms.  They think they can reduce crime by taking guns away from everybody there...but in truth all they do is disarm the honest.  The crooks remain armed and continue to commit crimes in DC.  That place is a fargin disgrace.

Sorry to hear about the loss of G.F. Cousin.

The N.Y. Times and D.C. politicians have led to the disarmament of law abiding citizens. I don't know if it would have made the difference here, but if the criminal/s who did this had the fear that this person MIGHT be armed, just that thought might have saved him. But they knew that the chances that he is unarmed are probably 99.99% and that he is easy prey. Sad.

Sorry to hear that.  It is unfortunate, I know some elderly guys that I used to work with actually carry a gun illegally because of this very reason that older people are being preyed upon, and sometimes it doesn't matter which nieghborhood you live in.

It's very sad, and ironic, that this fellow, who, like his paper, editorialized for an eventually gun-free world, died in the manner that the world he endeavored to create would leave his attackers: without a gun.

That's a shame.  There are a handful of murders per year in the "upscale" parts of DC where all the white liberals live.

Never go into DC without an ASP and Surefire.

Remember carrying a gun in DC is illegal (except for the authorities).

Not even the NRA wants to change that.

A valid point - thanks for bringing that up.
Being armed with no sitch awareness is no better than being unarmed with sitch awareness.

Not too likely...  I was listening to a talk radio broadcast where they were discussing "violence as a health care issue and being the result of poverty."  Sorry, you have had 40 years to make your social experiment work.  Time to try something new.  If the city was serious about solving the violence problem, they would institute CCW laws like Vermont and publicly execute violent criminals.
