They're a bit annoying, and I've already looked thru the TOOLS/ INTERNET OPTIONS button but didn't know what to adjust.

You can also turn off the Windows Virtual Basic Scripting program using Control Panel.  It will block the running of all scripts unless you say so. It is a pain sometimes to keep saying yes on sites like AR15.com, but it sure keeps those annoying pop up windows under control.

1.  Push Start, go to settings, select Control Panel.
2.  Select the Add/Remove Programs Icon
3.  Select the Windows Set Up tab.
4.  Scroll down to Accessories and select it.  
5.  Scroll down until you see the box for   Windows Scripting Host and un-check the box to un-install this feature.

This is also a security measure that disables malicious scripts by allowing you to say no to running any scripts.  If you decide you don't like it, you just reverse the process.

There are probably a lot of ways to do similar things, and this may not be one of the best, but it works.  

I have hung up the phone connection, and backed out of the windows then reconnected. I'm new to computers and I hate that too.

Just a guess, but if it is happening alot I would suggest that you stay off the Warez and Porn sites.

Go to PanicWare, download PopupStopper. Great tiny program that runs in your tray and stops all popups. Should you need to popup another window, all you have to do his hold down CTRL as you click the link. Great stuff, and you don't even have to disable Java.

Another option is to download a program called [i][b]POW[/b][/i] from [url]www.analogx.com[/url].  It's free and works.  When you see a pop up, you can add it to a list and you'll never see it again.  It was The Screen Savers free download of the day today at [url]http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/supergeek/story/0,23008,3339856,00.html[/url].

I like this one because you can easily turn it on and off.  A lot of the programs to stop popups won't allow you to right click on a topic and open in another window.  Well, with pop-up stopper, you can hold down the left shift and right click on the topic,  open new window and it allows it to open.

It is also very simple to turn on/off.
