I was kinda surprised at how few vendors there are compared to the Amateur Trapshooting Associations Grand American.

It is nice to live in Ohio. Short driving distance to no less than two National Championship shooting events.

I was also suprised that Bushmaster was not there. I didn't figure Colt would be there.

Armalite was the first shop we visited. Very nice large professional display. Fondling was allowed. Friendly people working there. First rifle you see when you walk in the shop was either the MK19 Mod 4 Automatic grenade launcher or the AR50. They seemed to have on display every flavor of almost every rifle they produce. They had the AR-180B prominently displayed. I was also surprised that they were selling rifles or lowers and doing NICS checks. Most large manufacturers usually don't bother. I saw quite a few sales in the short time we were there. They were very proud of their DCM rifle with a price tag of $1434.

Sherluk was the next shop. Lots of uppers and parts. Friendly service. Advertising $400 rifle and carbine kits.

Rock River Arms had a sizable display. Friendly Service that encouraged fondling with nice prices. They didn't seem to know anything about the 5 lowers for $385 when I mentioned it though. Nice looking rifles with great finish. Makes the LEGP look mighty enticing. Didn't see a price on the DCM rifles and they were busy with other customers.

DPMS had a large selection with a few different flavors. Fondling encouraged. They had the best price for a DCM rifle at $898. Many parts for sale also. Nice display, good prices with friendly service also.

Fulton Armory had a large display but did not allow any handling. Lots of parts but they were very proud of them. 30 dollars for a 20 round USGI and did not seem to appreciate any negotiation attempts on a bulk purchase. I really didn't care for this shop. Semi-snotty attitude that encouraged me to make a purchase elsewhere. Didn't bother asking price of DCM rifle.

Other shops like Champions Choice and Champion Shooters that had amazing selections in smallbore rifles and ammo. Large selection of reloading supplies, coats, gagdets and shooting paraphenalia.

I'm sure I missed a few shops from memory.

If you can, I would highly encourage making the trip and seeing the sights. Excellent way to spend the day.

I think most shops are open from 10AM to at least 8PM.

The Bushmaster door kickers were there last year by NRA week. ???

I've also noticed the smug attitude of the Fulton Folks. I don't know of anyone who has had them work on their rifle.

Commercial row is worth the drive in Ohio.

Try to find some 20 rounders from Georgia Precision mine were Colt in excellent shape.

Sherluk seems to travel around quite a bit. I seen them at the gun show held at the Eastern State Expo. here In Western MA. They were very friendly, and had a neatly kept display. I found their prices fair. Of course they had "FN" parts, so who knows who actually made them. I seen their $400 kits, they said they had Wilson barrels. I know they beat all the prices I seen at the show on things like USGI cleaning kits, barrel wrenches, action blocks, and barrel vice blocks.

Sherluk was also one of the few dealers at the show that carefully wrap the stuff that you bought. I bought quite a few small pieces ((3) lower kits, (2)A2 recieivers, (1)flat-top receiver, barrel wrench, and a long list of bits and pieces), and the girl wrapped each part in newspaper and put them into a bag. Most venders just hand you the 20 pieces and say have a nice day.

I wish I got a chance to go to Camp Perry this year, even if it was just to watch and help out.

I had Fulton build me a rack-grade M1A on a Springfield receiver. They were always very friendly on the phone, and the work was absolutely top-notch. The rifle they made me is head and shoulders above Springfield's factory guns, and it is better than any of the 8 USGI M14's I've been intimately acquainted with. They are spendy, but they are also a very small shop. I've bought parts elsewhere, but they get all my M1A gunsmithing business.

Fulton Armory built an M1A for me on a Springfield Armory M1A receiver out of all USGI Winchester parts. Took a couple of months, but it was worth the wait. Beautiful rifle. They also were a good source for AR parts during the dry pre-Y2K days. No one else had AR bolt carriers. I was able to get a couple from F-A at pretty close to the "normal" price. They ship fast and reliably, so I can put up with "snooty" when they come through when no one else can.
BTW-Bushmaster's web site says they are going to be at Camp Perry, I guess for this week.
