Saw a few posts about people not getting what they expected back from the IRS.

Was watching on Fox News the other day, can't find it on the net, and they announced that the IRS spent $34 million dollars to send out those notices to you informing you how much you'd be getting back and when.

Why couldn't they just send the damn check and save $34 million? Geeze!

$34 Million, eh?  Does that mean that the 1st class postage stamp won't be going up to $0.35 next week?

UUUHHHH, yea, good idea. If I had not gotten a letter saying(in publishers clearing house style)You will be receiving 600 soon, watch your mailbox. I would not have posted my rant yesterday and taken such a whuppin.[BD]
If a check just showed up, I would have just been happy to see some money, instead of feeling pissed cuz I didnt get more.[:D]
Just another waste of our money on useless crap, think how much we could have gotten if we split up the 34 mil they wasted !!!

No offense, but there was ONE reason, and one reason only for why they spent the $34 million to send us letters.

It's because the checks from the IRS won't tell you in big letters that you got this money because of GEORGE W. BUSH and his wonderful tax plan.  It find it disgusting that he used $34 of taxpayer money just to shamelessly promote himself.

Think about it - all the information that needs to be on the check was already in the letter telling you when you'd get the check - your anme, your address and the amount.  Since these letters were printed by computer (like the checks are) There was NO reason I can think of you could not have received the check at the time you received the letter.
View Quote

There was a delay sending the checks because the checks are printed on a special paper. The notification letter could be printed on any old recycled stuff.

Rail on if you like but consider this...If Al Gore had been elected your taxes would be going up not down, not to mention a full frontal assult on the Second Amendment.

Zazou: I got an email from admin at work about address changes I thought I'd share:

[blue]ATTENTION:  All employees who may have recently moved.

The IRS has just begun to mail out advance payment checks to taxpayers and they are mailing the checks to the address on file.  If you have moved since the last time you filed a return with the IRS, you may want to file form 8822 with the IRS to report the changed address so that your advanced payment check arrives at the correct address.

A copy of Change Address form 8822 can be downloaded from the IRS website at http://ftp.fedworld.gov/pub/irs-fill/f8822.pdf.  The form is a “fill-in” form that means you can type in your address change information before printing out the form for mailing.

The IRS has also indicated that you may file a change of address form with the United States Postal Service that will enable the Postal Service to forward your check to the new address.[/blue]

So Congress also claimed credit not just the Prez.

And don't forget the law that was passed reduces tax rates in the future. The check you got, whether or not you liked it, was simply because the tax reduction was made retroactive back to the beginning of the year.

Some people are just NEVER happy.

You WHINE about $34 mil being spent on a mailing (which works out to about $0.30 each)

Apparently, this is so heinous that some have resorted to saying "F_ _ _ Bush."

Meanwhile, Bush's appointee, John Ashcroft, in a letter to the NRA, has stated he believes the 2nd Amendment to specifically protect individual ownership of firearms. If you read the ENTIRE text of the letter, Ashcroft is EVEN MORE pro gun than that statement.

Man, I'd gladly give TWICE my $600 refund to get a man like Ashcroft in the Justice Dept.

That ONLY happened because George Bush was elected. Yet, you respond "F _ _ _ Bush."

Apparently, some of you are so blood thirsty for money that a clear and DIRECT statement supporting our RKBA is of little importance to you.

Clearly, when gun owners think $600 is more important than our gun freedoms (even if only symbolically so) THE REPUBLIC IS LOST.

Enjoy your %@*& money.

Last year in Washington state, Republican Slade Gorton, a good friend of gun owners, lost to ultra-liberal Democrat Maria Cantwell by about 2,000 votes.

The Libertarian candidate pulled about 60,000 votes.

Do your own math.

Well, let's see, George W. got approx. 50,500,000 votes for Prez., Harry Browne got less than 500,000, in 2000.

I'd say it would be a damn sight easier for the 500,000 to come over to the GOP side and make the Party a whole lot more libertarian in its policies, than it would for the 50,500,000 to go over to the Libertarian Party and make that party more 'feet planted firmly on ground.'

There's no other position between pro-gun and anti-gun.  If you are not pro-gun specifically, you are ANTI-GUN by default!

Sorry, guys, I'm from the Old South, we can only afford one 'Lost Cause' down here in Dixie at a time. We should have no intention of permitting gun rights to be defeated simply so 'we can come back stronger next time, and then we will kick their butts, fer sure.'

This is exactly how I have been explaining it for years, but people still do not get it. The 2 equal evils have such inflated egos that they think they OWN all of the votes and you are stealing from them if you take your vote somewhere else.

I want to see an advertising campaign by Lucent Technologies based solely on blaming the consumers who are not buying their products for their billions of dollars of loses. That will bring back a huge market share alright.

While I agree with 90% of the Liberterian platform (the part about legalizing all hard Drugs is where they lose me), a 3rd party system is recipie for disaster. Look at many of the European nations who are 3 & 4 party systems, and you never really ever have a clear winner. Whoever is in power is still a minority, just as Clinton never got 50% of the vote (Thanks Ross Perot, you realy screwed things up in '92). If you think there is lots of whining now about Bush winning by electoral college, could you imagine the whining if someone became president with 37% of the vote? Recipie for disaster. Liberterians need to compel more of their ideas to the Repubs, it's the only way it will ever work. That or a Revolution.

You're welcome.  You're also welcome for our having actually gotten the Republicans to [red]pay some fucking attention[/red] to the campaign promises that the bastards kept making and breaking.

Such as "Read my lips:  no new taxes, no new gun control. . . ."  I forget, how long did it take Bush the First to break both of those and cave in on his whole agenda? was it less than a year, or just barely over a year??

Hmm.  I think it was significantly less than a year on the first, and just barely over a year on the second.

As for Slade, yeah, he was more-or-less status-quo on guns, but he was a weaseling bastard on everything else.  Cantwell won because (a) she borrowed millions of dollars to buy advertising telling people she couldn't be bought, unlike Slade, and (b) the WA Republican party decided not to waste their money on Slade's campaign, instead using some to rent a new HQ and keeping the rest saved up for a rainy day.  I suppose you could throw in (c) voters went over 55% for Gore+Nader, so this is clearly not a state that loves Republicans.

Jeff Jared at least has principles, unlike either Gorton or Cantwell, and I look forward to voting for him again some day.  With any luck, you'll wake up enough by then to realize that you should vote for him too.

Got the letter the other day.  It says I'm getting $0.00.  I didn't pay any fed income taxes in 2000 (didn't make much and then made a huge IRA contribution).  I guess all the previous years in which I lost thousands to Uncle Sammie are just written off and forgiven like we're old buddies or something.

Actually, I'm glad I'm not getting the refund because I am totally against the kind of wealth redistribution and aribtrary use of government power that it represents.  Instead of doing what is honest, which is to admit that the income tax is destructive, unjust, and unconstitutional (the 16th Amendment never having bee properly ratified), they have decided to just play more games with the American people.  To me, it is proof positive that the political class in this country is living off the fat of the land and needs to be taken down a few pegs.

All of you who have cashed those checks have become complicit in their clever little game to get us to accept more backdoor socialism.

Conservatives, ha!  They're just pissing down our backs and telling us its raining, just like always.  My state taxes are going to go up for sure because the idiot socialists in power in NC think bigger government is really the way to go.

Wrapping up:

* tax cut = one horrendously big joke
* cashing the check = accepting their authority to continue stealing from us
* fed tax cut = state tax increase
* Net overall effect on my bottom line < 0 (I got no refund and will pay more state taxes)

OK, let me see if I got this right. You political brain cells can tell if I get it wrong.

If we would vote Libertarian then everything would be fixed and the new Libertarian officials would fix everything. They would know all the political games that are played by the Democrats and would be highly skilled in overturning all these years of liberal BS. They would be able to shut down the liberal media, fix all the slants and misinformation, and convince the 50% of the population that they are wrong and should believe you now.

Yeah, every intelligent person in the world can see this happening, Hell maybe even overnight.

On the other hand, If we would just vote Republican, and blow off the Libertarians, Then the Republicans would rule the world. All would be saved. We could drink coco and sing kum ba ya.  Only problems with that is,  the Repubs. Want to now grant amnesty to millions of illegal Mexican immigrants. Just today it was brought up again. And our hero of the month John Ashcroft is supporting this.
If Algore had won and this was being push by his administration. Every Repub. Would be up in arms about our National sovereignty. However, they are mysteriously silent now.
This is exactly what the liberals have been trying to do all along. Flood our country with a people who have never experienced the rights and freedoms that we all seemingly take for granted. Who do you think these people will vote for? The Libertarians….. The Republicans?….
No they will vote for the liberals who will allow them to absorb more and more of our tax dollar.
So Ashcroft said some words in support of our cause. What good does that do us if we give this country to the liberals. All those words won’t mean squat then.

I don’t have any idea what the Repubs.  are thinking, not even sure they are.  And I won’t even mention the Bush/ Putin talks and the concessions there.

Frankly you really can’t see much difference between Dems and Repubs. Anymore. It’s a known truth that the JFK administration was more conservative than today’s Republicans.

So lets beat our chests, talk about how much money the Gov. wasted and all this other CRAP while the liberals put in motion the plans to cut the legs out from under all of us. We would rather be right, then to come together and win this.

If the Republicans were doing they're job we would'nt be having this disscusion. If the Libertarians were as effective as they think they are they'd already be running the show. You don't become successful when people start following you. People start following you when you're successfull.

I can hardly wait for the "lesser of to evils" bulls$@t thats bound to follow.

RANT OFF!

Sure I'd like a $6K refund of my taxes. But its pure fantasy to think Bush could have gotten any more than he did get. Those who say Bush didn't get us enuf $$$ back are in a dream world - and IMO are simply using that issue to muster political power for themselves. You don't get it - the TOP Libertarians are now NO DIFFERENT than Dems or Repubs - in a massive power struggle. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. (NOTE: The little guy Libertarians are still pure to their ideology, but are misguided if they think that their national candidates are anything other than power hungry.)

For crying out loud - Bush  FORCED the Dems to go from NO tax refund, to a $1.3 trillion  refund. But that's not good enuf for some people. For $0.30, you get both a tax refund, and John Ashcroft. And SOME of you thank him with a "F_ _ _ Bush." Unreal. Some poeple would complain if they won friggin Publishers Clearinghouse.

THAT is why I say what I say.
