From the 2nd floor behind-the-scenes tour of Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA.  Here is an honest-to-goodness certified Can Of Whoopass:

And if that's not enough, here's the jumbo size can for tough cleanup jobs.  Behind it is the industrial strength can of .50 cal Whoopass (sorry, no pic because my battery got too weak to fire the flash one more time).

And while we're at it, here's a rack of the actual prototypes that The Great One, John Garand himself, developed:

And to give you a small glimpse of the bountiful treasure the room has to offer, here are two woefully-inadequate overview shots:

Oh, the marvelous and wondrous things BlammO Jr. and I took in today!

Sorry, I should have 'splained.  The cans were a post-WWII experiment for long-term storage.  They were stored with silica gel instead of cosmoline, so if they were needed in a hurry, they could be readied with a can opener.

How about the very first serial number ever put on any gun at Springfield Armory?  It was an M1860 musket:

And how about an "organ" of muskets?  They're two deep all the way around.  I count about 500 of them and there's not a single repro among them!

$12, but you have to get on the list.  They take 1 tour each weekend and it's limited to 10 people.  Now I'm wondering how much it'd cost to hire the guide for a 1-on-1 tour of the guns for an entire month.  Of course, I'd need a tape recorder, a bunch of studio photography equipment and a bottomless pot of coffee.

Seriously, the pix don't do it justice.  There is so much in that room, your mind can't even apprehend it all.  And for all the modern weapons, they not only have the gun, but also all the documentation and the full story of it.  There are 1-of-a-kinds and things you can't imagine.  Like the M15 rifle.  Anyone know what that was?

Call for the hours, first, though.

The M15 Rifle was simply a heavy barreled version of the M14 with a heavier stock, a hinged butt plate, a selector for full automatic fire and a bipod. The M15 was designed to be a replacement for the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) as the new squad automatic weapon. Subsequent tests proved that the standard M14 would shoot as well as the M15 in the full automatic mode if the M14 was fitted with a bipod, a selector and an M15 style hinged butt plate. The heavy barrel and heavy stock went out the window, as did the old reliable M1 style butt plate originally planned for use on the standard M14.

They alternate Fridays & Saturdays.  I took this tour yesterday (Saturday).  The next one will be Friday, 8/19 then Saturday, 8/27.  You can call them at (413)734-8551.

So, want to see an M1 Garand?  How about serial number 1:

And some old gun that nobody has ever heard of.  It'll probably never catch on.

ETA:  We have a winner:  menefreghista.  I didn't get a picture of the M15 this time, so I'll get it on the next go-round.
