Have you ever shot so much that your gas tube turns burning red like this?

Nope - I don't abuse my equipment that way. I'd rather have it still be healthy in case I ever actually need it.

Just curious, how many rounds were required to cause that?

As an M-60 gunner in my squad I had a barrel start to glow red.  Never got it white.

That's what the spare barrel was for.

I'ld have to think that the picture was taken with an IR camera.  you can't see the the tube through the heat shields and hand guards

Looks to me like the upper heat shield is removed. See the squared off edge of the lower shield and the shroud at the front?

If it was an IR camera, wouldn't the barrel be glowing a bit too?

Hey scarecrow, I wonder if that is a Armalite ???
If so, how could it shoot that many rounds without jamming

This is why I keep spare gas tubes for my rifles, being in my opinion the weakest link in the AR-15, if ever truly needed in a fire fight 1200 rounds plus could be used up quickly resulting in possible gas tube failure although not definite, but if it does fail spare tubes could be a handy thing to have.
