What do you think, and why?
Poll coming....... |

But...... Calvin and Hobbes would definitely be my second choice.

Far Side
Calvin and Hobbes Bloom County All are great. Doonesbury was very good, long, long ago. |

While the Far Side was truly genius, and Calvin & Hobbes was cute when I was a kid, I haven't read a newspaper comic regularly in years.
My regular comics are all web based: UserFriendly <--similar to dilbert, but less repetitive and more current events, open source stuff, and a great group of people on the forums there (one of whom led me here) Sluggy Freelance <-- kinda wacky and surreal sometimes, with horrible puns and oddball storylines GPF <-- also somewhat like dilbert in dealing with day to day life of computer geeks, but better artwork and some really interesting characters and storylines. and a handfull of lesser known webcomics. I will read Dilbert occasionally if one is pointed out as being especially funny, but after the first year it got really old. ETA: +1 for penny arcade, but I tend to read a month worth of archives in one sitting and not touch it for a while. |

Beware of DOuG! The dreaded African Rake snake! HA HA Rusty, I'm going to the Vets to be "Tutored"! |

I also really liked that the Calvin & Hobbes writer (Bill Watterson) really cared about the ART of comic strips, and lamented the continued shrinkage and b&w trends in strips. Check out some of the large-print Calvin & Hobbes collections, and you'll be amazed at the colorizing and detail in large panels. And he completely refused to sell out and commercialize. Every single Calvin & Hobbest sticker, art, t-shirt, etc you've ever seen has been a copyright violation, since he never licensed ANYTHING. (giving up millions upon millions of dollars) Not only is it my all-time favorite strip - but I actually have a lot of respect for Watterson. |

Calvin and Hobbes 1st, obviously.
Dilbert, second place , wasn't even listed |
I like this one, even though I feel a little creepy staring at cartoon chicks' butts. ETA: It's "Day by Day" by Muir, and it is very libertarian/right wing in its outlook. A recent story line had 2 characters thwarting a robbery with CCWs.

The other 99% of us like it. |

I am hereby excommunicating you from the international conspiracy of Psychopoliticians!! |

That's because it's acutally an intelligent strip. I appreciate the humor a lot, but even more than that I appreciate the intelligence. |
I agree. Though, The Far Side is easily second. |

Post the funniest C&H you have and try to change my mind. I haven't seen one that even makes me chuckle.
Sure it is... |
That's because you're insane. The problem is not with the strip - it is with you! |
Hmm. Are you saying that because my fingers were slightly off sync I am stupid? Or . . . well, I have no idea what the point was. |
You sir, are an ass.
Convice me. Never seen a funny C&H. Not even worth a chuckle. |
Dilbert.
Its like the book I had to read in High school called "The Peter Principles". You can identify the characters to people that you know or work with. |
I agree with everything you say, and the order. Except doonsbury. I hate that strip and the frog who writes it. |

And, you can have your own office, "Dilbert Factor", which is what percentage of Dilbert Cartoons accurately describe what goes on in you office. (My office funs about 80 per cent.) |
Those aren't nearly my favorites. They're just the only ones I could find on the internet. Anyone who doesn't find C&H even mildly amusing has serious problems, IMHO. |

Calvin: Where do we keep all our chainsaws, Mom?
Mum: We don't have any chainsaws, Calvin. Calvin: We don't? Not any? Mum: Nope. Calvin: How am I ever going to learn how to juggle? |
I would have to say Calvin and Hobbes barely, and I mean just barely, beats out The Far Side.
Get Fuzzy is my current favorite. Though it has somedays it just doesn't do hit it. |
