that looks like a cool trail. ~Dg84 |

Nice pics Jeff!!
You need to go on a Friday, so I can go with. No pics of Tim's rig? |
Fantastic. One reason why I hope to move there someday.
Beautiful pics. You have an eye for outdoor photos. The giant power line in pic 3 kinda spoils the shot, though. |
Ouch the $850 would be better spent toward a wench. Nice pics, and beautiful country. |
yup!
I tried to tow it out but it wasn't budging. It's just a little four banger jeep but it was still spinning the tires. 3000 lb Jeep apparently can't tow out a 7,000 lb Suburban! BTW: you really need to be there to smell just how nasty that bog really is! |
DAMN! You came up and didn't even say hi. I have a pic around here of a volvo stuck in the birdseye bog......and one of a winnebago on mosquito.

Man, count your blessings. I lived on the Western Slope for 6 years and I miss it terribly. I am flying out in a couple of weeks to drive the wife and kids to their new home here in Vermont. I am sure it will be sad to leave it for good. I hope to return some day. It is a special place.

I graduated from the U. Colo....
I need to get back there. Atlanta sucks. |
I can get a wench for you for alot less than $850 down on Colfax. While the wench might help you forget about the towing bill, a winch would help prevent future occurrences of getting stuck like that We will soon be abandoning Ft Collins - sick of the dry, high desert BS and the absolutely terrible traffic from all the Californicators. |

It's purty and the weather is good, but it's full of liberals.
We'd welcome ya! |
Thanks for the pictures.
I haven't been in the high country for too damn long. And that sure looks like one stinky, nasty bog. |
I feel your pain. I sank my Suburban in a bog one morning, a winched jeep couldn't get it out, nor a full size tractor, it finally took a road grader to get it out. At 10,000 feet, there are only two seasons, winter & August. |
Snow was still covering the higher elevation campsites in Sequoia National Park at 9200 ft last week. Very high snowfall this year in the Sierras. Yosemite didn't open until June 23, latest opening in 22 years.

Cool! Our cabin is in Gem Valley just West of Safeway. The funny thing is he followed me into the bog since my Jeep just drove right through it and the next one in front of that one. Jeeps rule.... |

Last I checked, our electoral collge votes went to Bush. Where did you state's go? |
Denver and Boulder and Aspen are full of liberals. They hole up there. We're thinking of fencing them off. |

I lived in Colorado Springs for 4 years. I really enjoyed my Jeep out there. The best time was in Ouray.
I was going to say, bet he's buying a winch within the next few weeks. Though I could go for a wench or two as well. EDIT: Been thinking of cutting string and heading for Colorado Springs after college. |

The "High" Country is awesome!... Need to go up more often...

Nice pictures. I grew up in Leadville, moved when I was 19 now I live in Ft. Collins.(25 now) I'm surpised you got so far into that snow on the road, everytime I try it I can never make it that high.

I lived in Ouray county. I miss it! |

Is the second one mount Democrat? That one kicked my ass? |

Very true. I live "down valley" from ASE, so you must be in my neck of the woods.. Lived up by Meridith too for a while. There are PLENTY of gun lovers in CO, I have no worries in that department. Haggerman's pass is one sick ride, you got that right. I take my dirtbikes up there from the Ruedi, then head to Leadville from there. It's so unbelievable up by the Continental Divide, I could stay there for days. I couldn't agree more jtw2, this is why I live in CO (just don't let anyone know!) |

My family and I stayed in Ouray last summer and drove a few of the simpler roads and trails in our F-150 Supercrew. Three years ago we stayed in Buena Vista - the road to Tincup Pass from the town of Tincup was the probably the roughest we've been on. The snow had just been cleared for the trip down the east side to St. Elmo.
No trips out west this year - |

Hey, TLG…I just got back on a machine this AM so I didn’t see your response to my post until recently. That second one is actually on a less-traveled route up to Evans (from the Guanella Pass side). There’s a gnarly, steep class 3 section that gets you up onto a sort of plateau very close to Mt. Spalding. You can access the Sawtooth (towards Mt. Bierstadt) from there or go on to Evans. Mt. Holy Cross was a serious butt-kicker (the first pic). Everyone said we had to make it an overnighter but we went for it in one shot. Only two of our group (8) made it. |

i wish there was snow on the ground here, and mountains too. i think i need to move
Cool, Torf. I've only done Elbert from the Black Cloud trailhead. |

The route from Halfmoon Campground is pretty simple, but it is quite the hike. My favorite is Mt. Harvard, via the horn fork basin. Next year is Mt. Massive, and we are talking about planning a 2007 jaunt up La Plata. Maybe someday I'll do Blanca rounding out the top 5. 1 week a year is all I get! |
