Bore evacuators are ejector pumps mounted on cannon to remove propellant gases from the barrel after firing. The bore evacuator contains a reservoir which is charged by high pressure propellant gas during the projectile's transit down the gun bore. After the projectile exits the muzzle, the pressure in the bore decreases to nearly ambient. The high pressure gas in the reservoir then flows through angled ejector nozzles, inducing a flow through the breech end of the gun and clearing the bore. It is highly desirable to improve the effectiveness of the gun bore evacuator. Increased evacuator pumping action will result in reduced flareback potential and greater crew safety.

So it's simply a reservoir which fills with gases and expels them towards the muzzle, pushing all remaining gases/particles out of the bore, and it is not powered by anything. Is that right?

I always thought that thingy was a sleeve that you could use to pick the barrel up with and not burn your hand.

Thermal Sleeves and Bore Evacuators are of course entirely different things.
Just to confuse matters, some people call bore evacuators fume extractors. Other tanks don't use them at all, and rely on compressed air. NTM |

It's like an M-4 BBL in reverse, you can mount a m203 under it for indirect fire.
