Was reading an article today by Clint Smith and he stated that the Carbine or Rifle is the best home defense gun. Personally we keep a handgun in a safe by the bed.

I know this has been covered before, and it always seems to be shotguns and pistols that people prefer for bedside guns. Was just curious since more instructors are leaning towards carbines or preaching the carbine lore, if more people are considering or actually using carbines.

I have been considering the merits of a carbine and I think I might try it one of these days and see how it works out. Maybe just add the carbine to the pistol. Kinda like that old arfcom saying "get both"

Carbine is good, but will go through the intruder, all of your walls & into the neigbor kid's room..
Shotty is good, but unwieldy in close quarters & easily taken away vs a pistol..
I say pistol, with a shotty backup.

And they are my damn walls, I'll shoot through them if I want to.

Seriously, they ALL go through walls.   So, what's your point?

Not on subject, but some years ago my great-uncle (elderly, quite ill) shot an attacker, a large drunk who stated he was going to do great bodily harm.  As the guy broke into his bedroom, my uncle drew his pistol from his nightstand and shot twice through the heart.  From a lying position.  Nice 2" group.

Whatever you use better have a flashlight on it.  I learned this the hardway, as some racoons were trying to get in my back door.  Scared me something fierce, as I thought it was zombies in my living room.

I have a shotgun with whatever handgun I fell in love with that month as a backup.
